The proteins created from your DNA are ultimately responsible for how food is metabolized. Although we like to think that we are very different from pigs, the difference between pig insulin and human insulin is only one amino acid out of a total of 51 (2% !!). There may be other genetic similarities that account for the similarity between lard and human depot fat. I could not find out what kind of fatty acids are produced when you eat mostly carbohydrates, but here is a study that shows that the more excess carbs that you eat, the fatter you get. http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/74/6/737 De novo lipogenesis during controlled overfeeding with sucrose or glucose in lean and obese women. McDevitt, et al. lipogenesis increases linearly with increased energy intakes of 25% and 50% above energy balance and decreases with underfeeding at the same levels of energy deficiency in lean subjects. In the lean subjects, de novo lipogenesis was significantly higher by a factor of >2.5 after overfeeding with either sucrose or glucose than after the control diet. In the obese subjects, overfeeding with sucrose resulted in a significant doubling of de novo lipogenesis.
Guest guest
Thanks for that, Jeff. Just one of those silly questions I've had and I thought I had found it at Brooklyn.cuny but I don't see it now. Now I'm not sure in what context it was stated. But I can see that human fat will be what we eat. Interesting thing about sucrose. Sweeteners are not something a CRer should be using a lot of, IMO. But I wonder why sucrose would be diff from say grains/potatoes? Regards. ----- Original Message ----- From: citpeks Sent: Thursday, May 13, 2004 9:52 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Similarity of lard and human depot fat (diet) From: "jwwright" <jwwright@e...> Date: Thu May 13, 2004 8:29 pmSubject: Re: [ ] Similarity of lard and human depot fatAny idea what humans make when they eat mostly carbos and make the fat from carbos?just wondering.===From: Jeff Novick One of the reasons that this may be so, is that the fatty acid profile of depot fat is influenced by the fatty acid profile of the type of fat someone eats.=========What you eat certainly influences your fatty acid profiles, and the body tries to manufacture what it needs from the material that it is fed.
