Are you coming to the picnic?????

New to Group

Hi -

I just joined the group today an am so excited to be

in touch with other MGBers again. I had my surgery

2/28/01 and Praise God and Dr. R I have lost 112

pounds (as of July 13th). I make myself wait to weigh

in when I go for check ups at my doctors office so

that I don't start obsessing about weighing. It was

very helpful in the beginning anyway.

I would love to talk to any of my littermates that are

on the list.

Can't wait to get to know all of you.

Hi Sue,

I was almost your littermate! Dr. R. did my surgery on 2/26. I guess I went

home the day before you came. Sorry I missed you but was happy to be well

enough to go home after one night. I started out at 301 and am now 210, so

that's 91 lbs. for me. You have done really great!!!

I think the fact that I started larger than most

helped me to lose so much fast. It also took me a

while to get used to my new stomach and I had problems

keeping food down for awhile. It seemed like I lived

on fruitjuice popsicles. I don't care if I ever see

another one. ha ha ha I'm doing great now. I am still

careful with what I choose to eat, but I have been

able to add many new foods lately. It has really been

a blessing.

It is definately incredible. I can't believe the

difference. I feel like me again in one way but

better - do you know what I mean? I make much better

choices for myself now emotionally and physically. I

can't wait for the next 100 pounds to come off. It

has even made a difference with my children. I have

13 year old twins (a boy and a girl). Neither of my

kids were fat but they were starting to pick up some

weight. My daughter, Brittany has lost probably 15

pounds just because of the way we eat now. We have

fruit for snacks. I crave fruits and vegetables so we

always have a large selection of them. My son had

even less to lose and has lost about 5 pounds. The

increased activity has probably helped also. I woke

them up at 7:00 am one Saturday morning so that we

could wash down window sills and base boards. (They

weren't too sure they appreciated this New mom that

morning) ha ha ha It makes me feel so good to know

how proud they both are of me. I don't have to tell

friends anymore how much I've lost - they say " Doesn't

she look great - she has lost ___ (whatever the amount

is). The whole experience is one I would never trade

for anything. Sorry I guess this got kind of long.

I had some problems for awhile, but everything seems

to be coming around now. I feel great - just a little

too anxious to get the rest of it off. - Personality

flaw I guess. ha ha ha

Sue,

Welcome to the Post-Op group! I had to respond when you said you live in

Peoria...I live north of you... up in Freeport. Are you sure you can't make

it to the picnic? I am just starting to make my plans for it. We have a

good sized IL MGB support group that gets together once in a while....we are

in the planning stages for our next meeting. (We usually meet in the

LaSalle-Peru area.)

Welcome to the group and I know you'll enjoy being here.We are also

having a Christmas banquet/party on Dec.15 at the Radisson Governors

Inn so maybe you can plan for that or the picnic for next year.Again

welcome aboard and hold on for the ride of your life.

Hi Tricia, I can see what I can do, but I doubt that

I can make the picnic because of it being busy season

at work and trying to get over the financial crunch of

having my surgery earlier this year. Please let me

know when the next meeting in the LaSalle Peru area

is. I would be very interested in attending. I have

spoken to Betty Pappas in the past but was unable to

attend the meetings she emailed me about.

Glad to hear from a fellow Illinoian.

If I had to make a guess I would say diastrophic, since I think we tend to

have the worst hands. But that is just a shot in the dark. Do you have a

photo that you could post to the list's photos web page? Perhaps one that

I had the Mini-Gastric bypass with one of my favorite guys, Dr

Rutledge the 4th of Oct. I was # 1500. Flew home to Tucson the 9th. The

eleventh had out of state company come in until Monday. Wednesday got a call

from Texas that my aunt had died. Mom and I drove to Texas for the funeral.

I

had business to take care of about 250 miles from Lubbock also, which took

several days. We finally got home last night. I can't believe my first month

is up next Monday! Wow where did it go. I feel good, except from being tired

from the 6500 mile trips this month. Have had no problems what so ever. Glad

to be on the other side. Hugs to all Barbara in Tucson 350/?

Hello Didi, and welcome. I used to live in NY, that's where most of the damage they fixed in my ear on Friday was done. I can't recommend a specific doctor (not that guy anyhow!) & don't know where in NY you are. Westchester County Medical Center has an affiliated pediatrics specialty group, also affiliated with Cornell's Medical College, that did a great job with my son's adenoids/sinus issues (I'm the one w/ bad ears). Here's the biggie - please consider seeking out an otologist, preferably a pediatric otologist, rather than an ENT. They have more training & experience. Check with your nearest teaching hospital. Best of luck.

Hi, didi.

Where do you live in New York? The Children's Hearing Institute in NYC would be

a good place to start. Dr. Simon Parisier is the founder of the Institute and

he and his partner, Dr. Tony Albino are doing research on cholesteatoma. I'm

sure either one of them would be able to refer you to an experienced pediatric

ENT.

Best of luck,

thanks alot for the response. i'm in new york city. so you recommend a pediatric otologist. why do you think its better tha a regular otologist? i would think the regular otologist would be doing more operations. do c-toma occur more frequently in children? this is all so new to me (and scary!)

thanks,
