Guest guest
Speaking of appetite suppresive prescription meds, my husband has lost about 4 pounds during the last 2 weeks on Wellbutrin. But some of you have reported that after 2 weeks the effect wears off, so we'll see. So far so good. Also there's a generic drug, Zyban, at about 1/2 the price with the same effect. on 5/25/2004 7:24 PM, Dowling at dowlic@... wrote: > Effective appetite suppressants free of side effects appear to still be a > bit elusive.... > > There are prescription meds that may suppress appetite, but it seems like > truely safe and effective ones have yet to be either discovered or > invented... Guest guest
I happen to think so. He says no. (In general he's a fairly happy/contented person who would not need an antidepressant for mood purposes). It's now about 16 days and his appetite is still diminished. After 1 week on the lower dose (150mg?) the doc then put him on the higher dose (300 mg). At any rate, don't most antidepressants take many weeks (like 6 or so) to improve mood? on 5/26/2004 11:49 AM, Dowling at dowlic@... wrote: > Thanks Francesca! > > Any improvement in mood as well? > >
Guest guest
True- antidepressants usually take 6-8 weeks to have a mood altering effect. >From: Francesca Skelton <fskelton@...> >Reply- >< > >Subject: Re: [ ] Re: appetite suppressants (was L-Glutamine) >Date: Wed, 26 May 2004 12:19:34 -0400 > >I happen to think so. Guest guest
Actually, Welbutrin is for a number of disorders, including depression, but it's usually not used for " severe " depression but for " dysthymia " or low grade depression, as a smoking cessation aid, and as an appetite suppressant. >From: " Peg Diamond " <enmuffins@...> >Reply- > >Subject: [ ] Re: appetite suppressants (was L-Glutamine) >Date: Wed, 26 May 2004 20:03:07 -0000 > > > > True- antidepressants usually take 6-8 weeks to have a mood >altering effect. > > >Canary Peg here: > >I did a Google search on Wellbutrin and see that it's a med for >severe depression. Guest guest
Also, many meds are prescribed for uses that are not listed in their primary indications. Antidepressants are commonly used for insomnia, restless leg syndrome, urticaria and itching, etc....
