My previous house had a whole-house ventilation system. The fan was so far away from where I would ever go that it was never a concern for me. However, I didn't find this particularly effective at anything, and since it draws its fresh air from the outside, you're still going to get any odors from the outside brought into the house. Again, odors are best dealt with using air purifiers that use oxidation, but there is of course the trade-off that these all are electrical devices. I can only leave them on when I'm not in the room.
