Hi folks:

It was JW here who explained this the way that best clarified the

issue for me, when he said something to the effect that: if you weigh

40 pounds less your body realizes you do not need as much muscle to

hold yourself up or propel you on your daily activities, nor as much

bone to withstand your weight. So it responds accordingly.

Using the term 'wasting' implies (to me at least) some dangerous

deterioration, when in fact it may well be a perfectly good and

natural body response. Of course I am not talking about bone loss

due to calcium deficiency or some other non-natural cause - that

indeed is bad news.

OBESE PEOPLE DO NOT SUFFER OSTEOPOROSIS!

Remodeling is the kinder, gentler term..... and yes bone health is a valid

concern for any beginning without excess bone mass and living (hopefully for

a long time) in the dangerous real world.
