Guest guest
Hi folks: It was JW here who explained this the way that best clarified the issue for me, when he said something to the effect that: if you weigh 40 pounds less your body realizes you do not need as much muscle to hold yourself up or propel you on your daily activities, nor as much bone to withstand your weight. So it responds accordingly. Using the term 'wasting' implies (to me at least) some dangerous deterioration, when in fact it may well be a perfectly good and natural body response. Of course I am not talking about bone loss due to calcium deficiency or some other non-natural cause - that indeed is bad news. OBESE PEOPLE DO NOT SUFFER OSTEOPOROSIS! Guest guest
Remodeling is the kinder, gentler term..... and yes bone health is a valid concern for any beginning without excess bone mass and living (hopefully for a long time) in the dangerous real world.
