Guest guest
That link doesn't do anything for me either. The idea is to retain as much muscle mass as possible, and not necessarily by a weight lifting strategy. If the whey doesn't help retain muscle, why do it? One reason is that veggie protein may not be enough protein for a 180#er. When he gets lighter it may. IOW, I know I have adipose fat to lose and what's the best way to lose it, without sacrificing muscle? My question is which "whey"? The Medline articles - I doubt will distinguish between the them. There is debate about which is the "best" protein source for muscle building, but, personally, I don't just eat pure whey alone, with nothing else and I consider it a calorie efficient source of many important nutrients and immune system fortifying substances. A Medline search will reveal many studies attesting to the health benefits of whey. I would, of course, assume whey would help build muscle better than pure carbohydrate.>From: Doug Greenwood <douglasgreenwood@...>>Reply- > >Subject: Re: [ ] Protein - Now I am confused!>Date: Fri, 11 Jun 2004 09:51:05 -0700 (PDT)>>Jeff & >Now I am confused. Guest guest
Jeff's ref did not explain anything for me. It dealt with specific amino acids given to endurance athletes and the results were that it had no effect. So what about using the BCAA included in whey, not individual amino supplements, for a person wanting additional protein? Not for megadosing, but just to get up to the req't with a veggie diet. I thought he might have some idea, since it was my impression he did the article. Guest guest
Dairy products, including whey, ought to help, as should CLA. Creatine might also help retain muscle mass. >From: " jwwright " <jwwright@...> >Reply- >< > >Subject: Re: [ ] Protein - Now I am confused! >Date: Fri, 11 Jun 2004 17:27:26 -0500 > >That link doesn't do anything for me either. Guest guest
I think I'm allergic to "it" too, because the weight loss is more than I expected.
