Guest guest
I have just joined this group. I read about the group in the Times- Picayune yesterday and was so delighted to find a group advocating what I have been harping about for years. Very hard to get anyone to listen when you live in New Orleans, the food capitol of the world! Hard to make people understand that they can still eat the most wonderful food in the world (our culinary reputation is well deserved) and still stay fit by simply cutting down the calories (as well as the fat, sugar, carbs). We also have the reputation for being the fattest city in the U.S. (probably deserved), so I am a lone ranger here. I think part of our problem here is climate (think steam bath at 7:00 in the morning, 5 months out of the year), but it is also our culture--which I love, by the way, this is the most wonderful place in the world, but the motto here is live to eat, not eat to live. Exercise is not a priority in Southeast Louisiana. I keep saying you can exercise in the A/C people! I do it. I also live right in the city, so I walk everywhere or bike. My husband drives but I no longer do (I have epilepsy). He also pretty much eats whatever he wants and needs to lose about 40 lbs! He's big, built like a wrestler, arms bigger than my thighs, but he's getting a belly to match! I showed him the article in the paper, to no avail. I'm looking forward to corresponding with like-minded people and living a longer, healthier life.
