Guest guest
The 150 grams was probably not just a total protein recommendation, but a balanced protein recommendation, like from a serving size point of view for amount of meat in a day. 150 grams is the size of approx the size of your fist, and is what Dr. Barry Sears (of Zone Diet fame) recommends as a crude measure of human protein needs. It is what a number of other CRFolks average, and also what I consume daily too, like as fish, chicken, beef, turkey etc. It isn't very much, about 1/4 to 1/3 pound daily. So the recommendation would be in line with other doctors say, what nutritionists counsel, and what CR practitioners eat. -- Warren ================= On 23 Jun 2004, wrote: > > , did your doctor explain *why* you needed such a large > quantity of protein? Guest guest
>>The 150 grams was probably not just a total protein recommendation, but a balanced protein recommendation, like from a serving size point of view for amount of meat in a day. The " standard " serving size of protein is 100 grams or 3.5 oz. Some organizations, like the USDA say its 2.5 oz a serving and recommend 1-3 of them a day. Some organizations, like the Diabetic Exchange system and the old weight watchers exchange system, say it is 1 oz and recommend 3-7 a day. Some of the cancer organizations say 3 oz and 1-2 a day. So, in general, the consensus is about 3-7 oz a day. But, as Warren said, this is the weight of the " serving size " of the protein and not just of the pure protein. On average, 3 oz of animal protein (meat, chicken, fish) supplies about 21 grams of protein. Compared to what most people take in, this is actually a much saner recommendation.
