Guest guest
Hi Peg: I was wondering the same myself. If you do a Google search for 'small red beans' you should get lots of hits. I ASSUME they are the same thing. They seem to be a southern US commodity. But I do not see alternative names listed. Guest guest
They are the small red beans used to cook " red beans and rice " in New Orleans. Smaller than most beans, about the size of a navy bean, but very dark red. There is a picture here - http://www.americanbean.org/Information/Bean%20Varieties/Home.htm#SmallRed http://tinyurl.com/yvprr --- In , " Peg Diamond " <enmuffins@y...> wrote: > > Can anyone tell me of another name for these 'little red beans' ? > Are they a type of kidney bean but smaller? > > Canary Peg
Guest guest
We have a smaller bean called a pink bean. I think if we could quantify each bean for all nutrients, we'd see a lot of similarity in "kidney" beans. Guest guest
I wonder if Adzuki beans would have a similar anti-oxidant content, if it is closely tied to the color. They are one of my favorite beans, partly because they don't take as long to cook since they're so small. I doubt this study included them in their 100 foods. Guest guest
Hi : So now I guess what we need to find is 'Little Red Bean Bran' and 'Little Red Bean Germ' so we can avoid the starch? Guest guest
Thanks , The search begins ;-)and it's quite an adventure to find these items. After much searching I found some tofu - very expensive - at a German health food store. I was quite pleased with myself but by chance read that soya is not a good idea for hypothyroids - ah well cant win 'em all.
