You can get " Making Natural Liquid Soaps " by Failor which goes into quite a bit of detail about making liquid soaps and shampoos, also covers gels. -- Peace, love and light, Don Quai " Spirit sleeps in the mineral, breathes in the vegetable, dreams in the animal and wakes in man. What is " castille " soap? > > =--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= A very mild soap that is usually made using only olive oil and lye. True Castille soap uses no other fats or oils period. Very nice soap. My favorite to make. -- Peace, love and light, Don Quai " Spirit sleeps in the mineral, breathes in the vegetable, dreams in the animal and wakes in man. Guest guest
I am very interested in making my own soap and shampoo. - you'll love it! ) I've been making shampoo bars for my hair and infusing the olive oil with herbs (oatstraw, nettle, rosemary, lavender, and sage) before I make it. Here's one recipe: 5 oz coconut oil 1 oz coco butter 4 oz castor oil 3 oz Palm oil 1 oz jojoba oil 2 oz sunflower oil 2.21 oz lye 6 oz water These are all weight measurements and always use a lye calculator to double check the lye if you change the recipe around a bit Soap Crafters Recipe Writer Becky You know you're old when you reach down to get the wrinkles out of your panty hose and realize you aren't wearing any. Guest guest
For the regular hard bar of soap, you use sodium hydroxide (commonly found in any hardware or grocery store as Red Devil lye). For the liquid soaps and shampoos, you have to find potassium hydroxide - prolly not found easily locally but online at a chemical supply company such as The Chemistry Store - Serving The Hobbyist, Student, School and Industry OOOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKKKKKAYYYYYYYYYYYY... what kind of lie???? You can use sodium hyroxide but you end up with a solid bar which you will then have to shave and add to a lot of water to keep it from re-solidifying. KOH (potassium hydroxide) does not produce a solid bar which is why it is used instead of NaOH. -- Peace, love and light, Don Quai " Spirit sleeps in the mineral, breathes in the vegetable, dreams in the animal and wakes in man.
