Agreed. LEFs products are of high quality, but are not inexpensive. I would

recommend NOW Foods supplements as a relatively inexpensive, high quality

alternative. The analysis of their products I have seen reported at

ConsumerLab.com has been consistently favorable.

I buy supplements from various sources. One I frequently use is iherb.com.

They have excellent service, a wide variety of supplements very

competitively priced, fast shipping, often free with larger orders, and

great discounts.

well... maybe appropriate for this group is mention of a company called beyond-a-century.com. They sell bulk powders.

Question: does anybody analyze bang-for-your-buck when dealing with supplements? For instance, if a particular brand or formulation is absorbed 50% better, but costs 100% more, then why not just take more of the cheaper one?

Beyond-a-century is liberally mentioned in our files and links as a top

notch source. Also mentioned is iherb.com. Read the files and read the

links! Lots of time and effort has been put into them.

Might want to add Vitaglo.com. Very extensive product selection (similar to

iherb), often with even lower prices. I have had good experiences ordering

from them.

Bang for the buck is something I always analyze. But, in addition, one ought

consider quality. When one buys bulk no-name powders, for instance, it can

be difficult to know if one is truly receiving a quality supplement.

Wakfer, considered by many (including myself) to be an authority with

respect to supplements, has stopped buying from Beyond-A-Century because he

was not satisfied they were paying attention to the quality of their

products.

Caveat emptor, especially with supplements!

Hello all,

I think that Wakfer is associated with the Life Extension Foundation

and receives their products for free after having consulted for them for

years.

I am not so sure I'd listen to him on Beyond a Century given this link with

the LEF.

While it is true he receives free supplements from LEF, he receives no

benefit from promoting them (i.e. he has no vested interest in LEF). He

receives the LEF products as part of his agreement with LEF regarding his

contributions to their forum as moderator in the past. He has no ongoing

relationship with LEF other than that.

His issue with BAC began when he and his wife, Kitty Antonik Wakfer, noted

variations in one of their supplement powders. They posted their

observations and responses from their inquiries to both BAC and LEF in the

following discussion thread:

Mambo and All:

I've dealt with for a number of years. Like anyone else, he can make mistakes.

But I don't know anyone who's more uncompromisingly honest about saying what he believes is the truth. Whether it benefits or hurts him financially.

I wouldn't worry about his present or past links with LEF for one second. He's run the tests and is telling us the results as objectively as possible.

Hello all,

I just wished to let people know of the affiliation, even if not 'vested' as

such. Of course, it is good news to hear reports that he is uncompromisingly

honest. So back to LEF supplements?

many thanks!

I wouldn't necessarily advocate buying LEF supplements, although I can

understand why one would. They are, AFAIK, high quality supplements, and,

according to LEF, they devote some of their revenue to life extension

research. Nonetheless, their products, IMO, carry a rather premium price,

while other supplements, of equal quality, such as those produced by NOW

Foods, can be aquired at lower cost.
