Guest guest
Gentlepeople, Several of you have asked me to address the subject of brain wave training with the EPFX (SCIO). Does it work? What can we say? In my opinion it definitely works and brain wave training works very well. From what I see and hear it helps people relax so they can manage their stress related to depression, anxiety, irritability, restlessness, sleep problems, attention and focus issues, autism and a variety of medical disorders. Unfortunately, unlicensed health care providers in most of the developed nations cannot legally " treat " any of these issues. Fortunately, in the USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, the European Union and most other developed countries, properly credentialed biofeedback professionals can legally train clients with biofeedback, including brain wave training, to help clients relax so they can manage their stress and pain and improve the quality of their lives. While unlicensed providers cannot legally say they treat anything, they can legally say biofeedback training for relaxation and muscle re-education has been proven effective for stress and pain management and improving the client's quality of life. Beyond that, there's a good deal of gray area that I don't recommend jumping into at this time. The gray area is discussing or publishing the beneficial side effects of Biofeedback training. I think the better way is to decide what kinds of things you want to help people resolve. Then advertise that you specialize in biofeedback training to help clients learn how to manage their stress related to (list the conditions) and improve the quality of their lives. For example, with brain wave training I would consider saying something like: " I specialize in biofeedback training to help my clients manage their stress related to their ADD, ADHD, anxiety, depression and autism so they can improve the quality of their lives. I do not treat ADD, ADHD, anxiety, depression or autism. I help people relax with biofeedback so they can manage their stress and improve the quality of their lives. " There is a problem with doing this. Licensed health care practitioners in your area will be very concerned that you're taking their clients and illegally practicing something without a license. They will check you out. They will discover what biofeedback device you use and they will discover your credentials. If you have none, you're in trouble. In the USA, Canada, EU and some other parts of the world, biofeedback equipment is classified as a medical device. To provide biofeedback services to the public you must have a valid license or certification accepted by your state, province or country. As far as I know, the only two certifications accepted in the USA, Canada, EU, Great Britain, Africa, Middle East, South America, New Zealand and Australia are BCIA and NTCB. The other three options are to train your clients for relaxation to reduce stress without being certified and take your chances, do brain wave training without informing your client or to really bite the bullet and practice something without a license. Ethically I have a problem with any of these choices. But you get to choose for yourself.
