Guest guest
welcome back! LOL.. don't know about the spurs, but read a long time ago that black pepper was indigestable to humans. but i did think it would ...er... a ... go right on through.. so to speak.. at least in time..????! <G> I think that honey combs are another indigestable material. about the potatoe... mamma used to do the same with the potatoe with burns or infections. However i seldom had either. another old remedy according to absolute folk lore from older members of my families when i was a child, was to cut a chicken in half and apply it as a poultice for snake bites etc. For drawing out boils, cysts, 'risings' etc, a piece of 'sow belly' (salt pork) used as a poultice. I do remember momma using that to draw out a tiny splinter from my hand that was pretty deep. Now.... whether it came out as a result of the gathering of puss and the body ejecting it...with my help... or if it actually 'drew' it out. <G> Anyone else have experienced this? ----- Original Message ----- From: peacefulglow Black Pepper: I have a colleague whose uncle was a mortician. She said he told her that he had discovered that black pepper remains in a persons body. I often wondered if black pepper had spurs that adhered to the bowel line...I really don't know..just musing here.Potato:.... bad burn on my finger. Grandma would cut a piece of raw potato, scrap it and put the piece on the burn. ..
Guest guest
heheheheheh!!! we sure are giving our ages away,, aren't we??? HEHEHEHEHEH!! I put me in mind of my step grandma telling about the wierd things done in her youth! In her day, (she was born 1859) they didn't have the cosmetics they have today and it was very important for a lady to maintain a very fair complection. She and her girl friends (teenagers) heard that cow manure would bleach the skin. She admits that they did indeed try it and indeed it did bleach, but it also puckered their faces like prunes! Ah!! the price of beauty! granny lee ----- Original Message ----- From: peacefulglow Oh yes. Whenever I had a wood splinter in my hand I would be the envy of all the children in the neighborhood (hehehe.) Mom would wrap a piece of fat raw bacon on me and sure enough, that salty meat would draw the wood right into it and out of me by morning. I think it was a combination of the fat softening the skin and the salt drawing that pulled the foreign matter out.
Guest guest
You can also use glue – just regular Elmer’s glue – dab it on your sliver, let it dry, and the sliver should stick to the glue and come right out. Guest guest
salt pork, like what we called salt side, sow belly or 'jowls'. I don't think regular sliced thin bacon is really salty enough. Also some people now-a-days, if the spliter is not totally emerced in the flesh, can take a piece of adhesive tape and use it like they do with the new tape thingie they use on noses to pull out blackheads. the tape is really effective for cactus spines. granny lee ----- Original Message ----- From: Candace Podratz So you just take a piece of bacon and wrap it around a sliver and it'll take it out???
