Guest guest
Hi folks: Udo's article says: " ........ research confirms that ALA (undamaged and accompanied by sufficient undamaged LA and natural antioxidants), is essential for life and for health. " But having read the entire article once, I failed to notice the evidence for that statement. Did I miss it? I did notice that after a paragraph headline saying something like " ALA is essential " , the material in the paragraph that followed the headline says n-3s are essential. Of course this is not the same thing at all. We all recognize the importance of n-3s EPA and DHA. If ALA, in and of itself, has some essential purpose it would be important information to know. Did anyone see his evidence for the necessity of ALA specifically? I don't have time to re-read the article now. But I will do so again tonight. The overall tone of the article (just my perception) is that it is a rearguard action to try to defend a previously long-held position. But maybe I am reading too much between the lines? More on this later, perhaps. Rodney. > http://www.udoerasmus.com/articles/udo/flax_prostate.htm
Guest guest
I think a good criteria for posting to the group should be evidence of the highest quality only (e.g. peer reviewed experiments and papers published in reputable journals). Self-described experts can't be trusted, may have other agendas besides giving out the best information available, and are ubiquitous on the web. So please read carefully to screen out the " noise " - that's not the kind of evidence we should be " listening to " . Let's continue to keep our standards high. on 8/25/2004 7:21 AM, Rodney at perspect1111@... wrote: > But having read the entire article once, I failed to notice the > evidence for that statement. Guest guest
Hi folks: Well I re-read the Erasmus piece. I see there no justification for ALA apart from its conversion to DHA and EPA. I wrote an email to him asking for evidence that ALA is essential, as well as challenging some of the things he says. As it turned out, while his website is working, his server is not accepting email. I will not repeat here my views of that piece he wrote - I would be afraid of getting sued for defamation. (But thanks for posting it, whoever it was. You never know when you might find something helpful. But not this time, imo!)
