Guest guest
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. The big drug co's are working to expand the use of statins and have demonstrated statistical benefits at progressively lower cholesterol levels. While it's hard to argue against success perhaps the benefit isn't just cholesterol reduction but modulation of inflammatory levels. This will get even scarier when they start selling statins over the counter, and consumers start lowering their cholesterol whether they need to or not. I hope they do more good than harm. I agree that the vast majority would be better served by behavior modification. It is remarkable how self destructive the typical diet is. I believe it's only a matter of time before the health insurance industry connects the dots and starts charging based on some combination of BMI and waist/height ratio. I for one don't believe in magic... pills or otherwise. Guest guest
I agree with you, , I'm not going to run out and start using a statin, but they seem to be good for anything (tic). The other side of the coin is that some of them are getting rather cheap, less than things like carnosine or other supplements. Regards. ----- Original Message ----- From: john roberts Sent: Sunday, August 08, 2004 5:39 PM Subject: RE: [ ] Dean Ornish editorial on lowering cholesterol It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
