Fellow practitioners, I have received several messages just like this one recently, it almost feels like an epidemic... So I would like to address it to all of you.

Dear Kathy,

What to do?

I turn on the box but no lights come on.......

It's been a while coming. It almost has felt like some kind of 'short' as in the past I could toggle the on and off key a few times and it would come on.

Now nothing.

Ideas?

Thanks!

This is not an uncommon problem. The toggle switch on the boxes have always had problems shorting out or going bad; not all of them,

and not all the time...but way to often. In fact this is a problem with ALL toggle switches not just those on our devices. Because of this I have taught my students to NOT turn off the box between clients. It saves the switch.

That does not mean you should not reset the SCIO/EPFX-usb, it means to do it a different way. Instead of using the switch, unplug the usb from the back of the computer or from the back of the SCIO / EPFX box...either will do what you need and reset the device. Since the power needed to run the EPFX-usb & EPFX comes from the computer through the usb cord.

Please, save yourself a headache and the expense of having your box fixed when the switch goes bad.

I have been told that the machine is still working, regardless of whether the lights are working or not. If the lights are permanently broken it doesnt mean the machine is. Is this true? From: Kathy <kathyqx@...>Subject: Re: my scio box and switch problemsqxci-scio-epfx-english , epfxchat Received: Thursday, 20 November, 2008, 8:07 PM

Qusetion:I have been told that the machine is still working, regardless of whether the lights are working or not.

Answer:My understanding is that there is truth in this of the QXCI box but the lights must be working on the SCIO Box.

The answer to your question is sometimes! If you lights did work and then stopped, it may be the bulb just went out. One way to check (by the layperson) is to have your SCIO/EPFX or EPFX-usb attached to someone elses computer, using their cable, do this with someone who has one that does light up. If you exchange boxes to try this, and your box lights up, then you know it was a cable problem. Which means the box is okay but your cable is not. If your box still doesn't light then you will need someone with an oscilloscope, to see if frequencies are going through the box. If there is then it is just the lights. If not? Suspect a bad switch before sending it back to Budapest...that is an expense. Now, the other issue...electricity, if you check for a current there is none. It is one of the reasons we don't have to worry about electrocuting our

clients, even when using water or moisture.

I checked with Alaister Borne (the designer of many of the attachments for the EPFX) before sending this to be sure I was on target. He said " I unplug the USB from the back of the box too, the switch is to unreliable". But, now you have several options on how to work with/or around the problem. Go with whatever resonates with you.

Remember though, you have a one year warranty on the box, so if it is under a year old and you open that box you void your warranty.

Yours in Health,

Kathy
