Guest guest
Jeff, thanks for the info on alternative sources for plant sterols, and Rodney, you are right to raise questions regarding this new generation of " margarines " , notwithstanding the studies. At this point, however, I am working on TRANSITIONING my family to HEALTHIER ALTERNATIVES and getting my husband's cholesterol down. I can picture neither he nor my 5 year old daughter ingesting gel caps in the forseeable future. What may be the " last choice " for veteran Cronies may be an acceptable " first new alternative " for family members of neophyte cronies. Also, as any parent of a small child (or reluctant spouse) knows, sometimes we have to " butter up " or " sweeten " foods to even get them from the plate into the tummy. > > > Hi, > > > > > > I'm a newish subscriber and have been lurking for a while. **This > > is a great list**. Guest guest
>> I can picture neither he nor my 5 year old daughter ingesting gel caps in the forseeable future. I see no need for a 5 year old to be ingesting plant sterols, in either form, let alone as a spread. There are much healthier and tastier options. The sterol margarine are not very appealing . However, for an adult like your husband, I would surely want to give him the opportunity to know the choices and the +/- of each one. >>>What may be the " last choice " for veteran Cronies may be an acceptable " first new alternative " for family members of neophyte cronies. I am a neither a vetaran cronie or even a veteran human (if this longevity thing is going to work) being only 1/3 of what I hope to make, but a student of what you might call " health science " or " optimal health " and I am willing to do the things necessary to assure my health and also am not willing to accept selling myself (or others) short. Very healthy tasty spreads can be made from beans, avocado, fruits and veggies also which both kids and adults (big kids) love and there may be some recipes for such in the group files. My daughter is turning 22 this year and was raised on a diet of whole unrefined plant foods without a refined proccessed or junk foods. At least till she was 16, at which time I let her out of her locked room. Good luck

Hi All, The below pdf available paper suggests it may be better to take the sterols than not. It was a randomized control trial, although look at who sponsored the study. Cheers, Al Pater. >>>SPONSORSHIP: Grant to the University of Kuopio by Raisio Benecol Ltd, Raisio, Finland.
