Guest guest
Veterans may remember my story of an allergy to Brazil nuts. In a nutshell (pun intended) I had been eating a nut a day for MONTHS, when I broke out in hives that got worse and worse. Things got so bad when I couldn't figure out what was causing this, that I was taking a steroid and thought I would land up in the hospital, when in a " light bulb " moment, I figured out it was the one Brazil nut a day that apparently was causing me the problem. Tree nuts btw, are the most common allergen. Now my husband, after YEARS of having a Brazil nut a day, has the same problem. We tested it after he broke out and we couldn't find any other cause. So apparently the " buildup " took much longer with him, but it eventually happened to him as well. I still eat 1/2 nut every second or third day with no ill effects. If I have more or eat them more often, I start " hiving " . So if you're eating Brazils for their selenium, and find this happening to you, suspect the nut(s) first. Other nuts btw do not seem to cause me or my husband any problems
