Hi please do petition the EU direct to stop the implementation of the new directive coming into force in April this year. Only the big nationals will be able to afford the licence and alternative health will become diminished. Please do follow the link and fill in a petition against this:

Details:

The fight to keep herbal products on sale in the UK and the rest of Europe has ignited. The EC bureaucrats, at the likely behest of Big Pharma, have issued an undemocratic directive telling the UK MHRA authorities to effectively sabotage the herbal products industry as it currently stands. Worst affected will be products from non-European traditions such as Chinese and Indian herbal medicines. Who knows what will be next? The MHRA claims they are taking this drastic step due to "safety issues, yet these herbal products have been on sale for decades without problems and in fact with countless examples of health benefit.

The MHRA is fully implementing a European law called the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive (THMPD). The Directive requires that all manufactured herbal products sold to the consumer be registered under the Directive. The problem is that vast numbers of products cannot get through the door; they are either locked out for being ineligible for not having been used in the EU for long enough or the technical requirements and costs make it prohibitive. A small business pioneering a new herb simply has no chance of raising such capital.

Many thanks Sue
