Calprotectin is an inflammatory marker which can be detected through stool testing and can be used to distinguish between IBS and IBD (i.e. Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis). In those known to have IBD if it is at a high level it can also be predictive of a flare-up. If Calprotectin and certain other specific markers within the GSDL test are high it can also indicate possible malignancy in the colon. Try searching for GSDL Calprotectin - I am sure they will have information sheets on their CDSA 2 test.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone have any knowledge of an elevated calprotectin level?

What it is and what can be done for it?

I would just explain the mechanism - when

there are infection or pathogens in the gut, the inflammation caused

can increase intestinal permeability. The innate immune system is able

to respond accordingly. If there is an alteration of the gut flora,

immune dysregulation or genetic predisposition there is a sustained

chronic inflammation and the leukocytes neutrophils will release

calprotectin. Thus calprotectin is a marker of leukocyte activity

usually done via a simple stool sample such as CDSA. Of course there

are other markers of inflammation in the gut such as eosinophil protein

X (EPX).

What can be done? Eliminate anything in the diet that may cause

inflammation in the gut. Investigate gut permeability. Heal the

inflammation in the gut and definitely increase pre- and probiotic.

Rebalance both physiologically and energetically. Finally repair the

gut if it has been leaky, which is likely. Consult your medical doctor

for anything more serious such as IBD, polyp or malignancy.

Take care, Azizah
