Guest guest
Francesca ~ Way to go! Sounds like you did a great job in presenting the basics of CR to the class. I know, from years of teaching college students, exactly what you confronted! You are to be commended for mixing humor in with the information you presented, and, of course, the one topic guaranteed to get the attention of students -- SEX! ASIDE: I will be away for the remainder of this week, through the weekend, for a family event. Will set "No Mail" until I return next week. Mark -------------- Original message -------------- Hi folks: Just got back from guest lecturing to my husband's class. Itseemed to go pretty well.I stressed that I still can remember what was on my mind at their age:boys, grades, clothes etc. But if I had it to do over again one of severalthings I'd change is: I'd eat better. Showed them a recent article thatheart disease begins in the teens. And told them that if nothing else, thediet will help them look"better, slimmer and more attractive to the oppositesex.Told them I never get sick anymore (and who isn't interested in that).Read the first couple of pages from Walford's first chapter including:......."eventually your breasts will sag, your erections flag....." and ofcourse that usually gets some attention. And asked them (if they feltthey'd never get sick or old) to pass it on to parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles who could perhaps be more responsive to the information.I actually got applause when done (which is better than what my husband gets- in fact he's lucky if he doesn't get a few snorers) so that wasencouraging. At least they were awake: a few asked questions such as : How manycalories did I eat a day...and to describe a day's eating. So I hope Ireached at least a few young souls.
