I have been thinking of you wondering how you are! I am sorry

about what your husband did. Hang in there.

I am coping yet with my mother's death in jan.Mother's day was

hard.It didn't help that my husband and my 14 yr old had a huge

fight.I left and went to see a movie all by myself. It was an awful

day.

Life sure is a challenge isn't it? I try to tell myself, one day at

a time.

Take care lesli, glad to hear from you.

Hi

My name is and I'm from Brooklyn, NY. I have a Nucleus but let me

begin by saying that people are NOT moderated on this list because of the

implant they wear. It's because of the things that they say and their potential

for causing strife on this list. All three brands are represented here and we

all try to get along and be respectful.

I can only advise you about the Nucleus because that is all I know about.

But your sister is right to tell you that you should do your own research on

all the brands. If you go onto the Nucleus website (www.cochlear.com) then

you can find a clinic nearest you. At that point you would want to make

appointments with the surgeon and the implant audiologist so they can tell you

everyting you would need to do prior to having the surgery as well as dealing

with

what your expectations may be for hearing with an implant. They can show you

the three implants and give you whatever other information you may need.

is one of the greatest lists for support. We can all share out

experiences and give support when you need it. I have a journal of all of my

expereinces from surgery to the present and I would be happy to share it with

you; just let me know and I will send it privately (too long for here). There

are also files that you can access with plenty of information that others have

posted to further help you get started! This is the best thing I have ever

done for myself and I am sure you will be thrilled with getting an implant too!

welcome to !!! we have some wonderful people who can help you with

your quest of CI. We have 3 different companies that have cochlear implants

here in the USA. All of them are wonderful .you can go to their sites and look

around and see what they offer for cochlear implants. They all offer different

types of speech processors but they all do terrific jobs. the 3 companies are

Medel at www.medel.com, Cochlear Corp at www.cochlear.com and Advanced Bionics

at www.bionicear.com. You can request information from them to persue at your

leisure. There should be an implant center near you. We have people from PA on

this site who would be glad to help you. You would need an evaluation by an CI

audiologist and CI surgeon to see if you qualify for one.

Hope that this is a good place for you to start!! YOu can go to links where

there are lots of information available for you to browse. :-)

If you're really tired you may try taking it at a different time of

day. I take mine just before I go to bed at night. Others have

figured out exactly how long after taking it they're ready to sleep

and take it that long before going to bed.

I've had no weight loss or gain.

Hello Gemma

I'm Kazz, I was diagnosed with Cholesteatoma in 1999 and it was removed

later that same year. Since then, I've had no end of ear infections and

perforations, but so far, no recurrence of the tumour.

I'm in the UK, too - down in Folkestone, Kent. Where are you?

Have you got your date for surgery yet?

I didn’t know you had a fusion. On

the upper is that a plate or did they use the stabilizers? Reason I ask is my

husband broke his neck in a car wreck in 99, they fused him from C4 to C6 and

he is in some big time pain. Other then the drugs he cannot get any relief. I

was wondering if you where experiencing the same issues?

Hello all;

My name is Mike, and I have one blue/green eye, and one brown eye.

It's been like that since I was born. In addition, my pupils are

quite different in size, which often causes doctors some alarm.

Although I haven't endured much teasing about it since grade school,

it's always been a factor in my life. I only recently thought about

it in an acadmic sense while researching something else, and I find

myself here.

What have your experiences been? Where shall we post pictures?

Curiously yours,

-Mike

Hi Ya'll

My name is Becky, and since birth I have had 2 different color eyes,

left one is blue, right one is green/brown hazel. If I am really

emotional it is extremely noticable, when I am calm without much

going on, it is harder to notice unless a person is right up in my

face.

I love the differences, although there have been a few times where

people tried to be mean about it. When I was five a lady told me it

meant I was cursed by God, and when I was 11, another 11 year old

wrote to Dear Abby because her classmates made fun of her about it,

so everyone at school asked me if it was me who wrote her - heck I

didn't even know what Dear Abby was at that time.

Welcome Becky,

I can't believe what that lady said to you about being cursed! What

a weird woman. I wonder if we are around the same age because I have

a vague memory of being asked about that Dear Abby column also.

Congrats on surviving the usual childhood wackos.

Weird, I don't recall ever being teased. It was a minor curiosity to

most, other then that it was more of an edge growing up.

I exploited it to make me popular...

Also, still, to this day if I am out clubbing and a gal notices it

she ends up waving all her friends over to my table to see and my

buddies just love this. Heh...

> When I was five a lady told me it meant I was cursed by God,

She probably had heard of the Witch Trials. During the Witch Trials,

people started talking about how you could tell a Witch by certain

marks on the body. These were thought of as either a way to feed a

Familiar (moles, weird bumps on the skin, and extraneous nipples fell

into this category), or a stamp placed on the supposed Witch by the

Devil.

The word " dissimilar " in the following quote most likely refers to

someone who is unlike other people, but you can see where someone

with Heterochromia might also fit into this category:

" It was generally agreed that any woman with dissimilar eyes was a

witch. Where most people had dark eyes and swarthy complexions, as in

Spain and Italy, pale blue eyes were associated with witchcraft. Many

claimed any woman with red hair was a Witch. This may have been

because red-haired people are usually freckled, and freckles were

often identified as " witch marks, " as were moles, warts, birthmarks,

pimples, pockmarks, cysts, liver spots, wens, or any other blemish.

Some witch-finders said the mark could resemble an insect bite or an

ulcer. "

--Witch: http://home.att.net/~gentletouch/witch.html

Someone once told me my eyes were one of the '13 Signs of a Witch',

but I couldn't find any specific information on this online. The

person speaking was not trying to be insulting.

Anyway, just a bit of information there in case anyone was

wondering...

Yep, and Dr. ph Mengele(angel of death), after rounding up his

jewish " patients " for experimentation, considered heterochromiacs

mutations as well.

Interesting stuff about the witch signs. That reminded me a person from

Ireland told me that heterochromia was a sign of a person being a

Donegal fairy in human diguise. Donegal fairies are supposedly to be evil

nasty things and ladies do protective gestures if they happen to see

someone with heterochromia.

It's been a long while so I don't remember all the specific details about

this. Tried Googling for it once but didn't find anything about that either.

Hmm I found lots of things on Donegal fairies, but nothing refering

to different colored eyes. Have to look again later.
