Jany,

Many sympathies! We've had bee hives twice and hire an exterminator. The

industrious little buggers can build a nest the size of Mt. Everest in a

couple of weeks (well, maybe three). If you seal up the hole, they'll just

get into the house another way. You really have to kill the bees and get the

hive out of there. Then seal up the hole for a little while so that the

" survivors " don't start over again there.

Some species are very mean and ornery. The last time we had them (it was a

kind of wasp), they stung me on the foot, and my baby daughter on her

forehead. The exterminator was even stung a couple of times--the first time

ever, he said.

hi jany.

I was wondering if there is a natural solution to this altho they do sound

determined! I looked bees up in Ann Worwood's book " The Complete

Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy " & this is her suggestion:

*******

to make bees take to a new hive, blend the following eo's together in a tbsp

of water soak a piece of material in this and use it to rub the inside walls

of the hive. melissa eo is also good. all these eo's can be used on their

own.

hyssop 1 drop fennel 1 drop thyme 1 drop

*******

i wonder if you could put this on the outside of your house as well. it may

sound simplistic but it's worth a shot.

i've tried the remedy for ants & it worked ! so why not bees?

good luck!

cathryn.

Okay, what I want to know is, how do you rub the inside walls of a bee hive?

My hubbie and I are beekeepers and wouldn't think of exploiting bees. We

are their caretakers and do everything we can to help them survive.

There aren't any wild bees in our area, the mites killed them all. We

don't take away all their honey in the fall, only the excess that they

don't need to survive the winter. Our bees are happily buzzing away

collecting nectar from one of the best locust tree and wild cherry tree

blooms I've seen in years. Those blooms make the most delicious honey!

Dennis I certainly hope that knee does get better. They are tricky things to heal. Do bees create hives or holes in the ground? Really ? Yikes. [ ] Bees Hi Diane I was told to dump latex paint down the bee hole. Do this very early in the AM - while it is still dark and cool and they are all still in the hole. They probably won't be back to the same place. The skunks dig up ground bee nests here in the fall and eat the larvae. I wouldn't recommend doing that. :-) I am having an MRI on my knee this Thursday. Something happened to it a week ago and I couldn't put any weight on it for two days. Dr said it might be a tear in the cartilage - I hope not. Hi everyone. Dennis

Funny you should say that Dennis cause I had my husband who stopped by

today go out and dig the spot up and there was nothing there.... Are you

telling me they will come back in another spot???? I have never seen

this before here in N.J.

Good luck with your MRI Dennis.... I will be praying it isn't anything

serious. Keep me informed.... ;o

They don't come back - at least I have never seen them in the same place the

next year. Some must overwinter though and start new colonies. I don't

know much about bees but watched a show about killer bees and am glad they

don't like cold. It would be best for the environment if you don't use

pesticides and if you do please use according to the label. Remember bees

are necessary to pollinate most of our flowers and fruit trees.

Thanks - I'm hoping it is muscular.

Yes, some make ground nests and we kind of keep an eye out during the late summer.

I can't imagine. I was stung one by a bee right on my cheek It was awful. The thought makes my whole foot hurt. I bet I will be wearing shoes all summer now. LOL Re: [ ] Bees I stepped on one once. Ouch! I have very bad luck with stings, I've been

stung dozens of times. Though not lately. Once I had

my hand stuck out the window while riding in a car and

at 60 miles an hour smacked a bee in mid-air. The only

thing left of the bee was it's stinger hanging out of

the meat of my hand. -dz-

A long time ago I took a drink from my can of beer and there was a bee in the can. It stung me in the tongue. I spit it out and went to the mirror and pulled the stinger out. I was real scared that my throat would swell up and I would die but it didn't so I drank the rest of the beer. :-)

In my case I would have. Turns out I am allergic to bee sting. Re: [ ] Bees I stepped on one once. It got me of course, I had topull the stinger out of my foot. -dz---- WILLIAM A WALTKE <kbwaltke@...> wrote:> All these years barefoot in the grass.

A real trooper!! That is one of the things that can

happen if you are particularly allergic to bee stings.

I know I have a cousin that has to wear a thing around

her neck that tells what to do in the event she gets

stung. Lucky I'm not that allergic or I would've been

dead long ago! -dz-
