Guest guest
Please, I missed the name of the book. Could you repeat it? Barb Once again, , we are in complete accord! I've recently started using Preg. and wish I'd known about it before using HC and Florinef! For those who want to learn more, I'd suggest Goodling "Pregnalolone stealing", as this explains it in good detail.Basically, those who test low in Cortisol ususally test low in DHEA, Progesterone, etc. This is because in order to produce the high levels of cortisol in 'first stage AF, your adrenals 'divert', or 'steal' Preg from making these other hormones.I and a number of others have been researching and are trying it, now.So far it seems like there are 2 considerations; there are 'transient' side effects, that SEEM to happen to some people, when they first start taking, but they don't effect everyone, and once your body gets used to it, they seem to go away; headaches (usually from taking too much at one dose), dizzyness, for a minute or less, heart palps, again mild and only in first couple of days, and sleepiness or insomnia. The second issue seems to be with some people, their production of Testosterone (in women) or estrogen (in men) can go up.Really don't know if this is transitory, and will resolve as levels straighten out, or not.I have found I got almost complete releif of symptoms, first day on 10mg.But, have had to steadily increase dosage. Am now at 100mg./day, and still increasing.I theorise this is because its going out, and into Cortisol,DHEA, etc. a little faster than I'm putting it in, and when i get my 'reserves' filled up, this will no longer be the case, and i will get consistent relief of symptoms. How long have you been taking it, how much are you taking, and how did you start taking it (slow ramp up, or 'jump in with both feet'), and did you have any negative side effects? Thanks for mentioning this, I hope everyone contemplating HC for AF researches and considers it, first.Like everything else, it may not be for everyone, but its something to know about.;-) Jim > >There is no reason to be nervous about taking iodine. Guest guest
Thank you ALL for the advice. What a wonderful and helpful group you all are! I am going to continue the Iodine and look into everything else. Would it make the most sense to give the Iodine a chance to work on (FBD, Weight, Goiter and Nodules) before introducing anything new (progesterone, preg)? I didn't mean for this to go OT. I would love for IODINE to fix everything :-) > > > >There is no reason to be nervous about taking iodine. Guest guest
What were your symptoms?-AOn Aug 3, 2011, at 9:34 AM, dutchdivco wrote: Once again, , we are in complete accord! This is because in order to produce the high levels of cortisol in 'first stage AF, your adrenals 'divert', or 'steal' Preg from making these other hormones. I and a number of others have been researching and are trying it, now.So far it seems like there are 2 considerations; there are 'transient' side effects, that SEEM to happen to some people, when they first start taking, but they don't effect everyone, and once your body gets used to it, they seem to go away; headaches (usually from taking too much at one dose), dizzyness, for a minute or less, heart palps, again mild and only in first couple of days, and sleepiness or insomnia. The second issue seems to be with some people, their production of Testosterone (in women) or estrogen (in men) can go up.Really don't know if this is transitory, and will resolve as levels straighten out, or not. I have found I got almost complete releif of symptoms, first day on 10mg.But, have had to steadily increase dosage. Guest guest
I would've thought dhea would be best as pregnenolone could be made into more cortisol but dhea should balance your levels, 7 keto dhea is the most stable. You can get it from agestop online if that's any help? It's about £10, I think with free postage in uk. Don't know about elsewhere.Kate.Sent from my iPhoneOn Aug 4, 2011, at 6:25 AM, Alison Trotta-Marshall <atmarshall1@...> wrote: Can pregnelone be bought at the health food store or do youneed a scrip? And, I too am healing adrenals but I have high cortisol, would pregnelone be good for me?Because since my adrenals have been unwell I have hadHypoglycemia and so when I am hungry I get adrenal pain.My hardest time is 3:30 Pm, 4Pm, where I need a meal with proteinor I get bloated, gassy, abdominal pain, sleepiness. My cortisol levels have been tested but it has been a couple of years. But I never healed because I was addicted to caffiene.Since I quit (for two months) I belive I am healing.Would pregnelone be good for me, do you think?Thanks-Ali On Aug 3, 2011, at 4:30 PM, baxrox wrote: Jim, Uzzi Reiss has a couple of books that are geared towards women as he is an OB/Gyn ~ however there is some information about men, but I'm not sure if there is enough for a guy to actually want the books!! :-) However the information on pregnenolone is accurate for both genders. Guest guest
From: Alison Trotta-Marshall <atmarshall1@...>>My hardest time is 3:30 Pm, 4Pm, where I need a meal with protein>or I get bloated, gassy, abdominal pain, sleepiness.>My cortisol levels have been tested but it has been a couple of years.I wonder, do you have healthy fats firmly in your diet? I was listenening to an interview with Wolf one day in January and he said the body never craves meat--that it actually is craving the fat but we think that it is meat. By that point, I realized I had not had a piece of meat in 6 months, but in those six months I had started taking and using coconut oil. It is 7 months later and still I have not had a piece of meat except I did make some meat last week because I have a freezer full from when I always thought I needed some meat. I decided to start using it up so it does not get freezer burned. But it is not that I am craving it. I used to think like you all my life. That I could never be a vegetarian because I crave a piece of meat now and then. But learning this has certainly changed that mindset.I have bought a range of good, cold-pressed oils to choose from and I mix it up now. Apricot, grapeseed, sesame seed, flaxseed, cod liver, rice bran, olive, I have had sunflower seed oil, coconut oil. You can't cook with most of those, so I stick with the coconut oil and rice bran. Guest guest
You will need to give it some time. Not sure how you got to 40 mgs on Iodoral. The tablets are 12.5 and 50 mgs. It took me getting to 100 mgs before I saw changes in my Fibrocystic breasts and PCOS. I also began to really detox at this level. Your inability to lose weight is probably related to toxicity and / or insulin resistance. I am seeing this over and over in people with thyroid and breast issues. Buist, ND HC Advice I want to give some background and ask for advice. Fibrocystic Breast Disease - diagnosed by a thermogram (asymptomatic)Multi-nodular Goiter - I was told that the I have the longest thyroid they have ever seenOne big nodule - biopsied 6-7 years ago - really hasn't changed much since the biopsy (not cancer)"Normal" labs, but I don't have a copy of them to determine if they are mainstream normal AND realistic normal. I should get a copy. Can't lose any weight - paleo diet (no grains, legumes, little dairy, little fruit) - good exercise with strength training. I am about 20 pounds or more overweight. Endo doc told me to exercise more and eat less....grrrr. I don't believe in the calories in vs. calories out theory. I also didn't lose a single pound on a ketogenic diet for 2 months. Age - 42Long periods (heavy the first few days and then spotting for up to 17 days)I take all of the companion nutrients and many other supplements. I took iodoral last year, but I got nervous and stopped. My ND is warming up to it, but wants me to use 4 prolamine (12mg) per day. I really respect her on most things, but not this. So, today I am up to 40 mg and just switched to Iodoral. Thoughts? Just asking if I am on the right track. Will this shrink my goiter, help me lose weight, get rid of the FBD? BTW, I am very anti-mainstream medicine, so I am inclined to skip this year's US and bloodwork, but part of me is curious. How long would it take to notice any difference from the Iodine. I appreciate anyone that is willing to comment on my current status. Nothing is life threatening or urgent, and I generally feel well. After starting the iodine, I have been very tired - hopefully this is a good thing. My ND says that she has discovered aluminum, mercury, and lead that I need to detox, so she gave me chlorella. Guest guest
yes, I buy my pregnenolone at any health food store, or online--vitacost, etc......If you buy, I would suggest gettingTABLETS instead of capsules, as you can split tablets in the beginning to start off at a smaller dose and build up.... Guest guest
Forgot to add, I started pregnenolone when I was feeling at my worst with adrenals, thyroid.....I felt I just needed " something " to help until I could build up the core......I started pregnenolone on a small dose, and felt better within 3 days....I read everything about it, some said to take it PM, some AM, so I took 1/2 dose AM and 1/2 dose PM which worked fine......I've been taking it for about year and a half......It never negatively impacted my adrenals, instead it gave me some more energy while I was building them up..... Guest guest
How much pregnenolone did you start with and what dose did you build up to? I think I'm in the early stages of adrenal fatigue and am trying to heal things before they get really bad. Thanks for any info or advice. BarbF In a message dated 8/4/2011 9:27:35 A.M. Guest guest
These studies have mostly good things to say about it:http://intelegen.com/nutrients/pregnenolone_and_mental_function.htmHas anyone experienced weight loss on pregnenolone?I am excited to try it.Iodine has gotten rid of tons of symptoms for me but many linger after three years on iodine and being on 175 mg of iodoral. And so I am thinking:I am still 20lbs overweight, I still getting eye and brain tightnessand fatigue during my period and ovulation, I have many food allergies, adrenal stress, high cortisol, hypoglycemia, a tendance toward havinga clogged liver, low immunity, bloating/a big belly, low brain function and thenI accidently fell upon this pregnenolone conversation. This "pregnenolone steal" explains it completely! It is all explained herehttp://intelegen.com/nutrients/pregnenolone_and_mental_function.htmIf our body produces less pregnenolone as we age, and it is the buildingblock for all other hormones, than taking it, would take the body outof stress mode, thus it would stop overproducing cortisol and beginproducing a better balance of all the lower producing hormones,it just makes sense that all would return to a place of balance, and adrenals would heal.I can't wait to try it.AliOn Aug 4, 2011, at 7:16 AM, DeNormandie wrote: http://www.ehow.com/about_5494200_dangers-pregnenolone.htmlhttp://www.raysahelian.com/pregnenolone.htmlIf you google it you'll come up with tons of info and the dangers of taking it. Guest guest
You have pulled this information from 1 site, which, coincidentally, is selling their product, in the same sentence as they are falsly inflating the negative side effects pf pregnalolone. I can copy/paste from numerous sites, similar 'warnings' regarding the 'dangers' of taking Iodine. I can also c/p from numerous sites, recomending the responsible use of pregnalolone. You might look for more than one source, for information on any treatment, look for alternative motives, such as selling a product as an alternative, and avoid blanket statements such as never or always. Otherwise you run the risk of promulgating false information, and discouraging people from exploring treatments which could give them significant improvement. After all, what works for one person, may not work for another. Each of us is responsible for researching thoroughly, and then making our own healthcare decisions. I would point out that pregnalolone is sold OTC in the US, in doses from 10mg. to 100mg.While there is plenty that can be said (negatively) about the FDA, I doubt this would be the case if this were as dangerous as you imply by your post.Jim > > > > Can pregnelone be bought at the health food store or do you > > need a scrip? > > > > And, I too am healing adrenals but I have high cortisol, > > would pregnelone be good for me? > > > > Because since my adrenals have been unwell I have had > > Hypoglycemia and so when I am hungry I get adrenal pain. > > > > My hardest time is 3:30 Pm, 4Pm, where I need a meal with protein > > or I get bloated, gassy, abdominal pain, sleepiness. > > My cortisol levels have been tested but it has been a couple of years. > > > > But I never healed because I was addicted to caffiene. > > Since I quit (for two months) I belive I am healing. > > > > Would pregnelone be good for me, do you think? > > Thanks > > -Ali >

Guest guest
When I first was thinking about Pregnenolone, as I said I was at my worst, (hashi's, crashed adrenals) but heard about it from another group I belong to...The person who mentioned it was a holistic practitioner....I googled pregnenolone to read EVERYTHING I could about it.....Believe me there's lots of things I wouldn't take because they sound risky for health..... But the more I read, the less " risky " it sounded, and the4 fact that a holistic practitioner also used it helped me decide....The worse side effects might be over stimulation, anxiety, sleeplessness---to me those are easily controlled by STOPPING it if you feel those.....But the good things far out weighted the bad--increased energy!... So I thought I'd try---didn't think it would " kill " me....so I thought I'd start with small dose---10 mg---also, half of the readings say take in AM, some in PM, but there was one that said to split the dose and that's what I did......I took 5 in AM. 5 in PM......I was quite surprised that I had no ill effects AT ALL!! I waited about a week, then upped it---I took a 25 mg. tablet and split it in half, AM/PM, so I was now taking 25 mg. per day---no ill effects on that either, but after about 3 days I felt more energy.... I asked this holistic person how much he and his wife take and he said 30 and 50 mg. daily, he took one and she took the other dose..... Soooo, after about a month on 25 mg. I upped my dose slowly next to 30 mg. split, then 40 split, and I've been at 50 split for over a year.....I have absolutely no ill effects... I'm 63 yrs. old and I have read that pregnenolone declines as we get older, as does melantonin, so I consider it part of my " anti-aging " regime..... I might add that one time during this I went to my own holistic MD, was reluctant to mention the pregnenolone but did, and he said it was fine...... About 2 months ago on my own intuition, I stopped the split dosing and went to 50 mg. in AM---only because I wanted to see if it made a difference.....I can't really say it has, but there's a part of me that says maybe---so when I finish this bottle of capsules, I'm gonna go back to spliting the dose AM/PM...... For the purpose of being able to split doses and make your own combo of strengths, I suggest getting the tablet form of pregnenolone, rather than the capsules which are hard to split.... Guest guest
Hi Deb, Speaking for myself; I will take iodine and the companion nutrients for the rest of my life. For the reasons that our environment is so very toxic and iodine helps me detox these toxic halides (bromides, fluorides, chlorides) and iodine is an important nutrient utilized by every part of my body, helping to me to prevent many cancers ( thyroid, breast, to name a couple) The soil where our food is grown is very deficient in iodine and other important minerals. There are so many reasons for me to continue iodine for the rest of my life. Best, Kathleen Advice> > > > I want to give some background and ask for advice. > > Fibrocystic Breast Disease - diagnosed by a thermogram (asymptomatic)> Multi-nodular Goiter - I was told that the I have the longest thyroid they have ever seen> One big nodule - biopsied 6-7 years ago - really hasn't changed much since the biopsy (not cancer)> "Normal" labs, but I don't have a copy of them to determine if they are mainstream normal AND realistic normal. > Age - 42> Long periods (heavy the first few days and then spotting for up to 17 days)> > I take all of the companion nutrients and many other supplements. > > Deidre>
