Dear All,

I watched the video of this for TWO hours. I think it could have been

done in 1 hour or 1.5 hours. A bit repetitive. Best stuff is from

Madigan and Dodson, and the Panel pay attention to what they say in

terms of informing you of the possible future.

I have not done the test for credit because it would not open up for

me. If I can not get it to open up I will have to contact PTCB.

Pharmacy Technician Workforce: Trained, Tested, Trusted

New responsibilities for pharmacy technicians are being identified

throughout the profession of pharmacy, transitioning the position of

pharmacy technician from a job to a career. This program discusses

how training and certification are driving professional advancement,

and how the use of certified pharmacy technicians allows pharmacists

to spend more time on patient-focused services.

This FREE continuing education program consists of video, slides, and

audio. There are three speakers and a panel discussion concludes the

program.

Follow these steps to access this FREE program:

Web-based Program

· Go to: http://onlinece.ashpadvantage.com/pharmtech

· View the slides and watch the video and complete the CE post

test

· Print the CE statement after successful completion of the

post test.

Podcast Program

· Go to ASHP Advantage's web site or iTunes and subscribe to

the program

· Listen to the program on your computer or portable MP3

player.

· Print the CE statement after successful completion of the

post test.

** ASHP membership is not required to participate in this program.

Completion of this program is not a requirement for PTCB

recertification.

Target Audience

This program is designed for pharmacy technicians and pharmacists who

are interested in learning more about expanding roles for pharmacy

technicians, training, certification, and the evolution and future of

regulation of pharmacy technicians.

Methods and Format

This continuing education activity is available as an online activity

consisting of video/audio and presentation slides or a podcast (audio

only), post test, and activity evaluation tool. Participants must

listen to the entire presentation, take the activity post test, and

complete the course evaluation to receive continuing pharmacy

education credit. A minimum score of 70% is required on the test for

credit to be awarded. Upon successful completion of the online CE

post-test, participants may print their official ASHP CE statements.

The estimated time required to complete this activity is two hours.

Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, participants should

be able to:

· Describe how certification of pharmacy technicians impacts

the advancement of practice.

· Review standards for pharmacy technicians for education and

training, certification, and regulation.

· Discuss the importance of PTCB certification and technician

regulation among states for patient safety.

· Discuss the advances made for the pharmacy workforce and the

pharmacy technician's role to assist the pharmacist and free-up the

pharmacist for patient-focused services.

· List the benefits of a career path for pharmacy technicians.

Faculty

Speakers will highlight the opportunities available for pharmacy

technician advancement. A PTCB update including accreditation status

and consumer perceptions will be presented. Evolution and the future

of regulation of pharmacy technicians will be reviewed. The session

will discuss the benefits of creating a career path for technicians

with a focus on training, recruitment, and retention.
