Counter-intuitively, I would recommend an ozone-based air purifier

to eliminate smog. I say counter-intuitively because the public

have been " educated " that ozone is cause of smog, when in reality

it is the ozone that is cleaning up the smog. Ozone air purifiers

are good for things like cigarette smoke, offgassing paints and

carpets, pet odors, etc. Hypersensitive folks can however be

sensitive to ozone, so you may need to choose lesser powered

models or put them on an on/off timer. The variation in how

people respond to the smell of ozone was really demonstrated

to me last summer after a building manager painted an exterior

door next to my wife's business with some really toxic oil-based

paint. I brought in a strong ozone air purifier and had it

turned on low. However, one of the employees turned it up to

high, which was way too strong for both me and my wife (making

the air smell like chlorine bleach). However, the customers

kept commenting on how great the air smelled, so obviously

they weren't sensitive to it, and actually liked the amount

of ozone that me and my wife found objectionable.

If you want to experiment with ozone, I'd recommend trying

an EcoQuest Fresh Air Focus, which can be purchased new on

eBay for about $30. I also use air purifiers from Biozone

Scientific, which produce ozone via a UV bulb. I've tried

many other brands over the years, but these are what I've

ended up mostly using. And if the air smells too much

like chlorine bleach near the purifier, then put it on

a timer which turns it on and off every 10-30 minutes.

There are a lot of companies selling " special water " ,

so you'll probably have to find out exactly who

the manufacturer is or the name of the product.
