Guest guest
Hi Sigal

Really sorry to hear you're in all this pain....

Tom has just posted about acupuncture, TENS and a couple of supplements like glucosamine. I'll just re-inforce that. I have acupuncture once a week and feel better immediately after my treatment, though I'm not sure how much is placebo... but who cares?!

But you should try a TENS machine. These pass a tingly electric current through the painful area and numb the nerves or something. The effect lasts a few hours. A machine costs about £70 in the UK probably a bit cheaper in the USA. I'm sure this would help with your pain some...

Hang in there!
Joe
Guest guest
Sorry to hear you are having a flare up. Moving the knee cap side to side, will not tear a liagment or the meniscus. An Xray ( or radiology as you put it ) will not show tissue damage, only bone information, such as a fracture. I hate to say it, but your OS is probably right in the fact that you are having a CP attack. Moving the knee cap side to side or holding it down while you make a muscle with your quad can put pressure through the patella femoral joint~ causing a lot of pain. Very frustrating! Ask your PT though, unusual things can happen.
Guest guest
hi Ann,
PT ruled out a menicus tear since my knees don't " lock " . she didn't rule out the torn ligament, but said she doesn't think it is the case.
she did claim that a 3 month pain from such a check-up is highly unusual, and that it must have touched some past injuries.
then she saw a bone mapping that i've done about 2 years ago that shows a stress fracture in the right knee and tibia (and CP) and she thinks that the check-up touched the stress fracture place and maybe revived it (my tibia did hurt a bit now, but i ignored it).

isn't moving the patella from one side to another while i'm making a muscle with my quad similar to dislocating the patella??
is it possible that he didn't put the patella back in place??

in the first 2 months i had a feeling as if a knife was stuck in my knee (between the upper and lower parts) and thus the different parts of my knee did not interact.
now it's a bit better, but i still feel that parts of my knee don't sit in their place, and the interaction is limited. i can't really exlain how it feels like, but it really reminded me the patella dislocation from 12 years ago.

thanks in advance,
-Sigal C
Guest guest
Sigal~ it definitely isn't something that your patella would like to have done to it! I don't understand why OS still want to do that test! even in a " good " knee cap, it would hurt. But at rest the patella should move easier to the inside than out and with a forceful contraction, it can really get smashed against the lateral facet of the femur, like dislocating it. However, you have obviously relocated it by now. Bummer that you have had such a prolonged set back. The knee cap is so slow to recover because of the daily repetitive stress from just basic living. Keep you head up and keep plugging away at getting better!
Guest guest
hi Ann,
thanks for the info- it was very helpful.
yes, i also think ( & feel)that my knee-cap is relocated.
i'm not a doctor or PT, but i reached the conclusion that this OS managed the aggreviate my tracking problem in the right knee. maybe it was the trauma to patella that aggreviated things.

i reached this conclusion b/c when i'm walking with my brace i hardly experience any problems at all (i have big, massive braces that keep my patellas in the right track & help me tramendously). when i'm walking without- i'm feeling a big muscle imbalance in my right knee, and problms pop out just a few minutes after beginning to walk.

i tried to swim a week ago, after a long time not doing that, and my patellas were just all over the place. i literaly felt the right knee moving feely, cracking, popping, & only swam 1/2 hour with a lot of intervals.
the following day i was biking much longer in the gym, with braces on my knees- no problems at all.
oh, well...

in any case, started PT and i hope that will help.
i actually asked to begin working on the left leg b/c it's in a more acute state. during the first session she was quite impressed with the damage i have in my knees, & said she is going to massage my Illio Tibial Band because it's tight. i thought: great, i'm coming to PT, getting a relaxing leg massage- couldn't ask for a better therapy. 2 minutes later i thought i was going to die from the pain- my ITB is soooooooooooo tight. ( & i'm usually very tolerant when it comes to leg pain).
but now i got used to it, it's much better.

-Sigal

Record this measure at the same time every day. Draw a graph and take notes of everything that may produce changes in your symptoms. After a few weeks you will be able to identify anything that causes trouble or improvement. It's hard work until it becomes part of your daily routine. I intentionally change treatments and doses to test their effect and use my own software to keep track of what's going on. The current results show (in order of importance) vitamin C, physiotherapy, aspirin, methyl B12, LDN and selenium as having some positive effect. Nothing else has seems to contribute. Guest guest
You may not see any "difference"but just knowing that you have stopped the progression is worth more than all the tea in China as they say. I am PPMS since 1996 and have seen (in the last seven months that I have been on it ) my symptoms go away and come back depending on the weather what suppliments I have taken or forgotten to take and wether or not I have been on 4.5 or 3.0 mgs. There are too many variables to claim that you will see great results, while all along you have stopped the progression, and didn't know it. Be prepared for bad days and better days as usuall. But the longer you are on it the more better days than bad will soon be evident.Maybe not to you but to others around you for sure. For me a break in taking theses wonder pills is mandatory but only for two days every thirty! I am sure you will soon find out what is right for you.
