Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Ok, after visiting my pharmacy - and it's not a compounding one, just buy 'as is', the pharmacist was surprised when I said I wanted to cut one tablet into 16 pieces - and he was equally surprised I was taking Naltrexone for MS and that was my reason for cutting the dose. He was so helpful, and encouraging, he wished me luck and hoped I would let him know how it's helping and to keep him informed. Anyhow, he made room for my wheelchair at the back of the pharmacy, set up a table, and brought a very interesting looking, and accurately sharp tablet cutter. He took one 50mg tablet out and showed me how to cut it, and there was no crumbling or uneveness, then, he also supplied me with a sterile tablet container to store the pieces, and just incase I wanted to mix with water, also supplied me with distilled water, a syringe and empty bottle. Now, this was the interesting part, he did tell me that even distribution of the key ingredient (naltrexone) would not be guaranteed in either the liquid form or the cut tablet form. Whilst I knew shaking the liquid form and drawing out 3ml with a syringe would not be even, I didnt think the same applied for the evenly cut tablets. But, he explained to me, and it made sense, that the 50mg tablets also contained other ingredients, to 'bind' the tablet together, and seeing as the manufacturer intended the tablets to be taken in the 50mg form, the distribution of key ingredients doesnt have to be even within one 50mg tablet. IE, there could be more naltrexone powder in one half of a 50mg tablet than in the other. Logical to me. So, for people who cut the tablet up (like myself) maybe that is why we feel one way for a couple of days, and different the next couple of days - because the concentration is uneven? Same goes for liquid. (oh, and he told me never to draw out the liquid from the bottom of the bottle - too concentrated - and we can never be quick enough with the shaking of bottle to assume we are getting it evenly mixed) I wish I had the extra money to get a compounder who buys pure naltrexone powder and then adds binding ingredients because thats the only way to ensure accuracy and consistency. One day, I will save up and do it this way. Cheers, sorry to write sooooo much Friday
Guest guest
Hi Friday, Would it cost so very much to buy the compounded LDN? Can you get it from the USA? Friday, it is a miracle drug for ms...I can't believe the results I am having! I was so excited I couldn't go to sleep last night, and am afraid it will go away. It had been 16 days for me at 4.5 mg. I am so sorry you have to go through so much to get LDN.......but is is worth it. My GP read the info from me and wrote me a script in about one weeks time. I was very lucky and thankful. I didn't get out to the rebounder yesterday...but plan to today!!! Take Care, BJ.......USA MI (Michigan) -------Original Message------- From: low dose naltrexone Date: Saturday, May 08, 2004 06:54:46 low dose naltrexone Subject: [low dose naltrexone] LDN Doses and consistency Hi Everyone,Ok, after visiting my pharmacy - and it's not a compounding one, just buy 'as is', the pharmacist was surprised when I said I wanted to cut one tablet into 16 pieces - and he was equally surprised I was taking Naltrexone for MS and that was my reason for cutting the dose.He was so helpful, and encouraging, he wished me luck and hoped I would let him know how it's helping and to keep him informed.Anyhow, he made room for my wheelchair at the back of the pharmacy, set up a table, and brought a very interesting looking, and accurately sharp tablet cutter.
