My PTCE Results

Hi All ...

I took PTCE on 12/1 and have now received my PTCE results in the mail.

I'm proud to announce that I PASSED the exam ! :-)

Total Score: 863

Assist Pharmacist in Serving Patients: 866

Maintain Med Inventory Control Systems: 830

Admin Mgmt of Pharmacy Practice: 900

Even after reading scoring explanation at PTCB web site I still don't understand

how scores are calculated ... but I'm pleased and proud of 863 score out of 900

total possible.

I attended a 7 month course. I'm currently serving externship which ends in just

over a week. There's currently a hiring freeze where I'm serving externship so I

don't expect a job offer.

As we all know job openings are few and far between right now so the most

difficult part in all of this process will be finding a job.

Many of my ex-classmates have not found positions yet, or have found part-time

or full time with very low pay and no benefits.

After being in the work force for 33 years and having to re-start over (losing

my job to outsourcing), needless to say I'm most nervous about the job search

part of all this.

My main study materials were ... Pass Assured, Mosby's Review CD, book on math

titled " Complete Math Review for The Pharmacy Technician " by A. Hopkins

Jr. " , sheets of various questions/answers from my school (most which were on

tests we had throughout the course), and my class handouts and notes.

I actually didn't use materials in the files here at the group, as I had a lot

of my own study materials already.

I read posts here in the group and would tackle any math problems that were

posted as that was my main concern going into the test.

When I took the exam the math did not seem difficult to me ... or should I say

not as difficult as I was anticipating.

But that's because I'm somewhat insecure of my math abilities ... but have been

overcoming that since taking the course.

My lowest math test score in class was 86% (only test I got a " B " on during

entire course ... and most in class got " B " on that test).

My highest math test in class was 98% (missed 1 question, darn!) ... so I did

much better on math than I thought I ever would!

When someone asks me if PTCE was " easy " , I hesitate to say yes or no. After all

what seems easy for one person may seem difficult for another.

Whenever I heard anyone say the exam was " easy " , I would catch myself relaxing

and not thinking I had to study/review as hard or as much as I was.

But then I realized not to fall into that trap. So I approached it as I will not

assume it's " easy " and will study as though it's going to be really " difficult " .

I tend to usually over-study but I'd rather be more prepared than under

prepared!

I went into the exam extremely relaxed and felt very good when I finished it and

left the exam center because I knew I had passed.

It's so funny because when I got home from externship Thursday night and saw

PTCB envelope, I felt nervous about opening it.

I laughed and said I know I passed (because I saw that much on their web site 11

days after taking exam) but I had been anticipating the actual score details.

I was hoping to score in the 800's ... so needless to say when I saw 863, I was

quite pleased!

You went in with TOOLS, STUDY, PREPAREDNESS but most importantly the

RIGHT ATTITUDE!

a. BELIEVING INYOUR SELF

b. PERPARING FOR THE WORSE CASE SCENARIO (DIFFICULT TEST)

c. STUDYING AS MUCH AS YOU CAN

Because of this you definitely earned your score.

Great work!

Please keep us informed of your job hunt. You are in California. It

is safe to say that many large cities where pharm tech programs exist

are saturated with experienced techs, however job openings do exist

in rural areas and non-city or outside the urban developments or

suburbs . So you may find a job further away from home than you had

planned. Look for work in those areas and do not shut any doors.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. May I also add that you

emailed me behind the scenes!
