Guest guest
Dear Ms Aries23, While I wholeheartedly will tell you to memorize and know the trade/generic names and pharmacology of the TOP 200 drugs I will also tell you to add as many as you can to the list. Why? Because typically the list contains the top RETAIL sellers, but not necessarily the top sellers of hospital or IV drugs. Foryour convenience Ihave added a few lists to check out. They vary slightly but are from three differnt sources: Files > 5- Tutorial-1 & Study Information > S 7- Memorization of Trade and Generics > Top 200 Drugs Top 200 by Retail Dollars 2007 Drug Topics.doc Drug Topics Top 200 Drugs according to Retail Sales 37 KB rxjm2002 Top 200 Prescription Drugs of 2007.doc Top 200 Drugs by the number of prescriptions being filled according to Pharmacy Times. Top 2007 Drugs by Sales.doc Drugs.com Top 200 Drugs according to US sales Source: Verispan, VONA Hope this helps, Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS Pharm Tech Educator > > I plan on taking the PTCB exam in March, I need to know how to go about > studying top 200 drugs. Guest guest
The PTCB typically asks questions about 'traditional or classic' drugs. But they throw in some newer drugs here and there. I find it takes typically 3 years minimum for a new drug to find its way onto the PTCB exam. However this may change now that we have an electronic exam. Guest guest
I would choose using time over money in this instance and go to MedicineNet.com. Use their search feature and select your favorite ailment....I entered " High Blood Pressure Medication " for instance. It gave me a list of the kinds: - Diuretics<http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=63497 & page=1\ #tocb> - Beta-blockers<http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=63497 & pa\ ge=1#tocc> - ACE inhibitors<http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=63497 & page=\ 1#tocd> - Angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB)<http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=63497 & page=1#toc\ e> - Calcium channel blockers (CCBs)<http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=63497 & page=2#to\ cf> - Alpha-blockers<http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=63497 & p\ age=2#tocg> - Clonidine<http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=63497 & page=2\ #toch> - Minoxidil<http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=63497 & page=2\ #toci> And all are links to descriptions of the top drugs and their mechanism of action. Be a better tech through research...bet you can put together your own top 200 list from this one website! and by the time you do you will know A LOT about the medications and their uses. - On Wed, Mar 24, 2010 at 6:06 PM, mariacpht <cphtgenius@...> wrote: > > > I know a lot of techs studying for the PTCE are looking for lists of the > top 200 drugs.
