Guest guest
To enlarge a little re. Lara`s recent references to VitC, bowel tolerance level (ie, the dosage at which there is a softening of stools!.....) She mentions 6grams (-6000mg) as being usually regarded as bowel tolerance. ........I wish!!! -It is my understanding that the actual figure varies considerably from person to person, with people in good health the figure commonly being in the range between 1 & 20 gm/ day. Amazingly, this figure has found to increase by up to 10 fold when the body is challenged by illness! (ie. up to 200grams / day, & in some cases, eg. holding back cancer, even more!) -Curiously it has been found that one of the dis-eases that triggered the highest increases in bowel tolerance levels is mononeucleosis (glandular fever) the incidence of which has been observed to be quite common in people who go on to develop MS.(I myself had glandular fever about 45 yrs ago.) I normally take around 15grams of VitC a day, (mostly as ascorbic acid but with a few grams of EsterC also). This dosage doesn`t to come even remotely near to affecting stool softness for me! For years I wondered if maybe I didn`t have a "bowel tolerance level"!!! I think I tried levels up to at least 65grams a day, possibly more! Anyway, last year one of my brothers contracted a particularly nasty & vicious flu virus. As he lives in the same house I was very concerned that I didn`t catch it! At the very first sign of the virus in me, I really started to "hit the high C!" I was dissolving powdered VitC in water, around 10-15grams/glass & drinking them quite frequently (I add a small quantity of bicarbonate of soda -baking soda in American English? This lessens the acidity & causes effervescence), so that in a day I was taking about 125grams ofVitC. It worked! The flu bug was banished before it managed to really get a hold: I was soon able to start progressively lowering the dosage (it`s very important that the dosage is not suddenly dropped or the problem will return!) Once one is accustomed to higher doses of C, it is actually fairly easy to know how much is appropiate by the taste, when the body really needs a lot, even 10-15 grams of ascorbic acid (vit.C) in a moderate sized glass of water tastes quite mild/bland & refreshing, as one`s condition improves the extreme need for it diminishes & the taste clearly becomes progressively more intensely acid! -I have clearly noticed this many times. (-In this particular instance, after a couple of days or so, I did for the first time, notice a slight stool softening as a result of the vit.C!) This fact of the remarkably wide ranging efficacy of large doses of VitC in the successful treatment or management of many dis-ease conditions is a subject that I have frequentlly been tempted to bring up -I have resisted it until now! It is such a big, important & comprehensively misunderstood subject that one couldn`t possibly deal with it adequately here. For anyone interested I will list a few good sources of information at the end of this post. One uncomfortable parallel with the situation re. LDN (this won`t seem very significant to anyone who hasn`t yet thoroughly explored VitC, both on the informational level & on the very high dose experiential level) is the staggering amount of dumb, ignorant, resistance to the implementation of such a very widely effective, safe, cheap substance among health care professionals who really should know better! A resistance which, in the case of vitaminC has sadly already gone on for many, many, MANY years! ( & this despite an abundance of research & skillful attempts to make the facts more widely known!) -I very much hope that this dark fog of ignorance soon vanishes in the light of understanding that hopefully we are developing & spreading! -My response to anyone who suspects that I may have overstated things, is the quote from Larry that was posted yesterday by B. ! : A truth's initial commotion is directly proportional to how deeply the lie was believed. It wasn't the world being round that agitated people, but that the world wasn't flat. When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic. -Dresden Authentic information on VitC can be found at: Dr. Cathcart Bibliography *3. Guest guest
I remember my doc telling me about a way to find out one's bowel tolerance; I think it was to take 1000mg of buffered Vit C every 15 minutes until loose stools occur. At that point, one should back off 1000mg, and that should be one's dose for a day. I actually never did this because with my PPMS I don't need to have to get to a rest room any quicker than absolutely necessary!
