Guest guest
I work in a small hospital in WV and on our mini-bag plus we date the bag itself for 15 days because once it is punctured with the antibiotic then 15 days from that day we waste it. Mini Bag Plus+ hospital techs Hello, its me again. Again with the mini bag plus question...sorry. Our staff has the impression that the drugs are good until the date on the vial as long as they have not been mixed. (Of course otherwise stored according to directions, ie light exposure, temp). However, the bag itself once out of the overwrap is only good a certain amount of time. Most package inserts do not address mini bag plus bags. We have been dating the bags 30 days from time snapped together, but on a recent trip to St. Louis hospital, noticed they are putting 90 days dating. I have made a chart of stability times, what kind of fluid, run times, etc for most of our formulary iv's. In response to question of making expensive or short term stability items. We contact RN just prior to time due to make sure nothing funky is going on and that they still need it. We have had cases of tech's making Xigris and pt expiring before they get next dose. ouch to budget! Also, does anyone have problems with ob epidurals? Our RN's are really bad about ordering stat epidurals and the pt has delivered within 10-15 minutes of calling for it. Thanks... Selena p.s. love this web site! Guest guest
Hi Selena- I'm glad you like the site. As you can see, its so much more than just a study site for CPhT candidates. I've been a tech for a number of years and I am constantly learning new things on this site. (Thanks again, J) We treat our expensive or short stability drugs the same way you do. As far as the OB epidurals, we've made those a floor stock item and they are charged to the unit. The RNs have them when they need them and any waste comes out of the L & D budget not the pharmacy. It works out well for the patient and both departments. Sincerely, Dora Group Mod > Hello, its me again. > > Again with the mini bag plus question...sorry. > Our staff has the impression that the drugs are good until the date > on the vial as long as they have not been mixed.
