Guest guest
I bought the manual Tech Lectures as a study guide. For the most part the book has gone well. I then decided I wanted to get a second book so I would have fresh math problems to study. My thought process was it would give me a better work out and I would do better on the test if I stayed fresh. Calculations are my only concern on the test. I picked up a kindle version (easier to tote along with) of Essential Math and Calculations for the Pharmacy Technician by Indra K. Reddy , Mansoor A. Khan. The math has me so frustrated and I don't understand why. I have boggled my mind up in formulas that I am completely lost and now have doubts that taking my test was a good idea .... Guest guest
Dear Jab91864, Sorry to hear of your frustration. What I suggest is to take a few days off from studying. Then return to the manual that was the easiest for you. Master that one again. After that just try the links to free tests that I mentioned. Feel free to post your questions here on this site. Guest guest
I ordered a Mosby book at the library and found that to be more to my liking. Perhaps the format on kindle was making the other book seem more difficult. I know this stuff I just have to keep from messing up my head beforehand worrying.... I'm really worried about struggling with a calculator online instead of a real live in my hand calculator. I am super slow using an online version but my fingers fly on the real thing. I am also very worried about a timer being in my line of vision on the computer screen.. ticking down which will mess with me. I've always had test anxiety so that is no surprise. I have to drive 6-hrs each way to take the test and I'm not looking forward to that either. For better or worse I take the test on Thursday of this week. On a personal note, I almost cancelled my test last week. My nephew passed away suddenly and to be honest I find it difficult to worry about the test over much or concentrate on studying since his passing 10 days ago. > > > > I bought the manual Tech Lectures as a study guide. Guest guest
There is plenty of time to take the test. I finished with half the time to spare. I questioned myself about going back over it but decided not to and scored well. The first 3 questions were very intimidating and heavy duty math. I wondered how I would ever finish. It was fine after those few questions. Look at the math problems and pull out, only what you need to solve the question. You will do just fine if you studied. Guest guest
Dear Jab91864, Glad you were able to get a copy at the library! When people write to me about not having much money to spend on books I do mention the online sites, my free tutorials and the library check outs. Some times the library copies are nto the most up to date, but pharmacy does not change much from one year to the next enough to worry. However it has changed dramatically from 1995 to 2005 from 2000 to 2010 from 2005 to now! It changes in chunks of time! You will be fine with the online calculator. Practice with the one you have on your own computer you will be fine. In addition, you will be given an electronic scratch pad. You may wish to ask in advance if you can use a hand held calculator. It seems to me one of the members on this site said that they were offered a hand held calculator that belonged to the testing site OR the computerized e-calculator. You might want to callthe actual testing center to be sure. If you are NOT ready or can not concentrate then post-pone the exam! Unless you have a deadline to get or keep a job, post-pone it if you are unable to concentrate. On the job, especially at a hospital, you would be told to go home, take time off for grieving, because we all know that distractions lead to medication errors. So if this could happen on the job, imagine it also happening on the day of the exam. If you feel you can not focus why put your self through this now? Ask if you can put a piece of paper taped over the timer? You never know unless you ask! The 6 hour drive? Well some people take the kids, spouse and make a getaway overnighter of it. But you will be exhausted so maybe you should tell the family that you need your sleep the night before and you will/may crash the day after. I went out celebrated with a GREAT meal then crashed! Some people drive up the night before and stay in the least expensive motel and the friends or family meet them the next day after the exam and they stay over. Test anxiety: do deep breathing exercises to calm you down, much like what is done in yoga if you have ever done that. If not look it up on line. When ever you get to a point where you can not stay focused or it seems like you knew the answer before the exam, but not during do the deep breathing for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. We recall better when our heart rate is normal or a bit lower. Just do not fall asleep! Deep breathing also helps counteract worry and anxiety. HOW? By sending more oxygen to your brain! Oxygen and a calmer heart allows you to focus and recall better1 I am sorry for your loss of your nephew. I personally know how that feels. Give yourself the break you need, if possible post - pone. If not possible learn the breathing exercises. I teach breathing techniques to my students for test taking, which are similar to what is below: Specifically for test anxiety: http://grad.berkeley.edu/acapro/test_anxiety.shtml Stress management for peak performance http://www.stress-management-for-peak-performance.com/test-taking-anxiety.html Techniques for Dealing With Test Anxiety http://www.livestrong.com/article/155975-techniques-for-dealing-with-test-anxiet\ y/ Test Anxiety and Relaxation http://telecollege.dcccd.edu/Services/StudyHelp/StudySkills/sub/anxiety.htm The following may help you in general: http://panicdisorder.about.com/od/livingwithpd/a/deepbreathing.htm http://socialanxietydisorder.about.com/od/copingwithsad/qt/breathing.htm Hope this helps you, Respectfully, Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS Chemistry Founder/Owner of this site Pharm Tech Program Director > > > > > > I bought the manual Tech Lectures as a study guide. Guest guest
I can't postpone, it's very difficult for me to get time off work during the week. So if I postpone I will then burn the requested " off " day at work and not be able to schedule another soon enough for my time frame on the exam. I'm going to get up super early and make the drive tomorrow. > > > > > > > > I bought the manual Tech Lectures as a study guide. Guest guest
You did everything right! I just have t have time to approve the psots. I used to have this on real time a long time ago, until I got bombarded with juunk mail and porn links etc! So now it is only acceptable topics, questions and discussions that are pertinent with pharmacy techns. Congrats again!
