Guest guest
I have 3 problems which needs to be addressed: 1. Order: Heparin 45,000 units IV in 500 ml D5W. Available: Heparin labeled 10,000 units/ml. How many milliliters will you add to the IV? 2. Order: KCL 20 mEq in 500 ml D5W to infuse over 8 hours. How many milliliters will you add to the IV? 3. Order: Zithromax 320 mg po daily. The label on container says, " 200 mg per 5 ml. " What is the dosage? Thanks Abe

Guest guest
Dear Abe, I was going through to find posts that may not have been answered. I am not sure why my posting did not show so I will try it again: 1. Order: Heparin 45,000 units IV in 500 ml D5W. Available: Heparin labeled 10,000 units/ml. How many milliliters will you add to the IV? Ratio/Proportion: 10,000 units----45,000 units ------------ = ------------- 1ml--------------X ml 1 x 45,000 ---------- = X ml 10,000 4.5 ml = X ml 2. Order: KCL 20 mEq in 500 ml D5W to infuse over 8 hours. How many milliliters will you add to the IV? You must know that KCl is 2 meq per ml 2 meq ------20 meq ------- = -------- 1 ml -------X ml 1 x 20 ------- = X ml 2 10 ml = X ml 3. Order: Zithromax 320 mg po daily. The label on container says, " 200 mg per 5 ml. " What is the dosage? 200 mg-----320 mg ------- = -------- 5 ml-------X ml 5 x 320 ------- = X ml 200 8 ml = X ml Hope this helps, Sorry about the delay!
