Guest guest
This study has located 2 molecules " Located on the surface of most nerve fibers, Nav.1.6 controls the flow of sodium into the cell, which in turn triggers the activation of NCX, a molecule that, if unchecked, imports abnormal levels of calcium into the nerve fiber that ultimately lead to its death. " http://www.pharma-lexicon.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=8788 (saw the report on this in the bostoncure.org news alert) This brought to mind 4AP, now no longer available, which may be a good thing, because there is other research underway on calcium flooding of axons to " determine safety limits of drugs such as 4AP, which may enhance nerve conduction but increase influx of possibly harmful calcium " http://www.nationalmssociety.org/Research-Chiu.asp Now for my amateur question of the day: Calcium and other minerals are of course hugely important to the body, but can taking them as a supplement possibly increase this risk of calcium flooding into axons and killing them?
