Guest guest
Recently I have been asked by some in private emails about finding work with a backgroun in pharmacy but not have worked in a long time. Not one of the emailers mentioned age, but danced around it. While no one wants to talk about it AGE does make a difference! Age in retail can be an advantage as one with years seems to 'understand' the elderly a bit more, perhaps have more patience with the public . While a younger person in the hospital may have more stamina or energy to stand, lift, carry work faster in an emergency etc I am speaking of the newly hire or trainee, NOT about seasoned older techs who have build up years of experience and stamina in a hospital. NOR am I putting down the younger retail tech. I am merely pointing out what those doing the interviewing and hiring are 'thinking' consciously or subconsciously. It is up to each and every one of us to SELL our selves. We must try to dismiss any 'stinking thinking' that could prevent us from getting hired. We are the only ones who can speak for ourselves. Door to Door: Try going directly to the pharmacy to meet a pharmacist or director to SCHEDULE an interview. Be prepared to leave a resume and /or be interviewed right then and there. DRESS for Success! Yellow pages: Send a resume and cover letter to local pharmacies. Online career search engines: You could post your resume. I have no experience doing this. I would prefer to answer posted job openings. Have an electronic resume ready. Follow all instructions carefully. Try to tailor your resume to the specific job tasks that the ad mentions. Hope this helps someone out there, Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS Founder/Owner
