Guest guest
Dear Harshala, I am not an expert in this area of becoming a US Pharmacist with non-US degrees. However I know enough to tell that I was in a discussion about two years ago when I did some online research and found that one must have a 5 yr BS Pharm degree from India to take our tests. Otherwise they would have to go through the Pharm D programs here IF they graduated in India before 2003 they were okay. I could not find that SAME research online to send you to read. But I did re -research it and found a site that will help you with the basics: What to study in USA after B.pharmacy in India?.. How to become a pharmacist in USA with international Pharmacy Degree?.. http://msinus.com/ms-in-pharmacy.htm This topic got lots of hot debate then because one BS Pharm person had only 4 yr degree while the other had a 5 yr degree. http://www.pharmacist.com/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Shall_I_Study_Pharmacy_ Here is the post that stirred things up a few years back: http://answers./question/index?qid=20080821053332AAo2EC6 Also the site I would send you to carried tis hot topic as a discussion back in 2006 and later. Guest guest
Hi, Thanks for your prompt reply. Actually I am new immigrant in Canada. Currently I am living in Edmonton ( Alberta province) I have again and again reviewed the evaluation criterias mentioned in the website www.pebc.ca and now i have come to the conclusion that i should go for the evaluation for Pharmacy Technician. Now again my question is , PEBC requies 2000 hrs of work completed in pharmacy field. i have that experience but from India and not from Canada. Can you guide me on this. Regards Harshala From: Jeanetta Mastron <rxjm2002@...> Sent: Thursday, October 20, 2011 12:11 AM Subject: Re: Am I eligible for evaluation as pharmacist or pharmacy technician? Guest guest
Dear Harshala, I am the last one to know about Canadian law and PEBC. BUT I do have a pharmacist 'Joy " who I call a resident (lives at my site:): who may be reading this. She has taught pharm tech in Canada and is a Florida Pharmacist now. It is possible that she will be able to answer your question. IF she is reading. If I do not hear from her in two days or so I will contact her directly and see ifshe can help you. BEST bet is to contact PEBC! Hope all works out for you Jeanetta > > > > > > Hi, > > > > I am from Bombay ( India) > > > > I am B.Sc. Chemistry , Drugs and dyes. Guest guest
I was in Ontario and am not totally sure of what is going on in Alberta. Here is a link for international candidates wanting to take the pharmacy tech exam in Canada http://www.pebc.ca/index.php/ci_id/4079/la_id/1.htm When I left Ontario in 2004, you could get a job in a pharmacy without being certified to get your 2000 hours. However, you could also take the exam if you had a 2 year pharmacy technician diploma from a community college. So most pharmacies were opting for the college grads as they'd have less training to do with the new hires. It looks like from the Alberta website that they now have a mandatory registration process so if you are not already registered, you may have to go the college route and may not be able to work in a pharmacy without certification but I'm not 100% sure. Here is the regulatory body for Alberta (The Alberta College of Pharmacists) website for technicians: https://pharmacists.ab.ca/nRegistrationLicensure/Technicians.aspx It looks like for Alberta you would either need to go back to college in Canada for the Pharmacy Tech program (they may give you some credit for what you've already done) or you'll have to pass the international qualifying exam to see if you can take the national pharmacy tech exam. Most provinces will also have you take the TOEFL exam if English or French is not your first language. Hope this helps. Joy
