I was in Ontario and am not totally sure of what is going on in Alberta.

Here is a link for international candidates wanting to take the pharmacy tech

exam in Canada

http://www.pebc.ca/index.php/ci_id/4079/la_id/1.htm

When I left Ontario in 2004, you could get a job in a pharmacy without being

certified to get your 2000 hours. However, you could also take the exam if you

had a 2 year pharmacy technician diploma from a community college. So most

pharmacies were opting for the college grads as they'd have less training to do

with the new hires. It looks like from the Alberta website that they now have a

mandatory registration process so if you are not already registered, you may

have to go the college route and may not be able to work in a pharmacy without

certification but I'm not 100% sure.

Here is the regulatory body for Alberta (The Alberta College of Pharmacists)

website for technicians:

https://pharmacists.ab.ca/nRegistrationLicensure/Technicians.aspx

It looks like for Alberta you would either need to go back to college in Canada

for the Pharmacy Tech program (they may give you some credit for what you've

already done) or you'll have to pass the international qualifying exam to see if

you can take the national pharmacy tech exam. Most provinces will also have you

take the TOEFL exam if English or French is not your first language.

Hope this helps.
