Hi Carsten Bech --

I use Betaseron and LDN at the same time. I've used Betaseron for

about 8 years now, and just started 4.5mg liquid LDN about 3 weeks

ago.

My neuro has no real comment about my use of LDN other than it

hasn't yet been scientifically proven effective for MS. Therefore,

he favors I continue with my Beta, at least for now.

He mentioned that the Beta will not necessarily interfere with the

LDN. I wonder if anyone really knows at this point.

I feel the LDN is working well for me, notwithstanding my continued

use of Betaseron. My fatigue is better (less!), and my clarity of

vision has improved. My bladder symptoms feel like they are trying

to get better but I wonder if the Betaseron-possible-conflict is

holding that back?

I'm for the use of LDN. Good luck with your decision!

Carsten,

The " Interferon's" retard the immune system, " LDN" stimulat es the immune system. It is not advisable to take both at the same time. However, it is ok to take "Copaxone" and "LDN simultaneously.

Tom

Subject: [low dose naltrexone] LDN and betaferon

I’m a bit confused on using LDN and betaferon at the same time. Some people say that it’s OK to do this and just recently I read a post saying that they were interfering with each other – or maybe even neutralizing each other.

Does anyone have a fulfilling answer – I do know that no one actually knows how these medicaments works – but anyway, maybe some rather wise persons could cast a light on this issue?

Carsten.

Hi,

here is a post I saved from someone (forgot to save the author's

name) who is a patient of DrBihari. this is what he has said about

interferons:

" Since Bihari said in my conversation with him earlier this month

that Interferons work against LDN, I know that those using

Interferons are not protected from an exacerbation so I won't be

asking if you've had an exacerbation or not since going on LDN since

this question has already been answered by Dr. Bihari that those who

continue to use an interferon with LDN are not protected from

exacerbation "

I was told that interferons were immuno-mudulators and not immuno-

suppressants. I asked several people whether I would be more

susceptible to sickness if it lowers my immune system and was told

no because IFN only regulates the immune system. I think of immuno-

modulator as of a guard rail on a bridge that prevents cars from

going in the water. IFNs keep the killer cells from crossing the

blood brain barrier. I may be wrong but I haven't seen even

anecdotal evidence that they cancel each other out. Like many

things in this MS world, LDN and IFN neutralization is based on

theory but hopefully will be proven one way or the other over time.
