tips or rules of thumb on converting metric units?

for example, " 0.6g= x kg? " , or " 566.32 mL = x L? "

I know this is really a simple matter of counting a certain number of

places to the left or right and placing the decimal point, but I'm

struggling as it feels like guesswork (I told you math was my

weak!) rather than systematic. I'd like to feel more confident in my

system. Any tips?
