Guest guest
Dear Magpie 836 and All, You may be surprised to learn taht your posts of two weeks ago inspired me to remake my original versions of the Alligations I and II into word documents. You will need to use the Alligation II method. Go to the yellow menu from the home page then> Files > 5- Tutorial-1 & Study Information > S 8- Math Tutorials Only > 4. Alligations > Alligation II There you will find the following three documents: 1. Tutorial - Alligation II Updated Word Copy.doc Updated word document of the original copy of advanced Alligation II that was posted in September 2003. Posted May 23, 2009 2. Tutorial - Alligation II copy of original Created Text.doc Tutorial Alligations II - copy of original on word document since some members said that they can not open the Created Link. Posted Apr 3, 2009 3. Tutorial on Allegations II -copyrighted July 18,02 Learn how to dilute a stronger solution with a weaker solution using the allegation method, commonly referred to as the tic tac toe method. This is an enhanced example from the original PTCB Study Group! posted on Delphi, by Jeanetta Mastron CPhT enhanced by Jeanetta Mastron copyrighted7-02 Posted Sep 21, 2003 Here is the link that brought me to the FIRST, and newest of the 3 documents listed: /files/5-%20Tutorial\ -1%20%26%20Study%20Information/S%208-%20Math%20Tutorials%20Only/4.%20%20Alligati\ ons/Alligation%20II/ I used tinyurl to make this shorter url address: http://tinyurl.com/nmg6zn Once you enter this url Click on " Proceed to this site " listed under the long site address " The tiny url will ONLY work if you are already logged into the site and the site is open on your computer. It will not work from an email unless you are logged in to the site. PLEASE let me know how you like the tutorials. You may recall JAMES K wrote last week in a post that he used a math tutorial and it worked great. Hope you have as much success. If there is something that you can not understand please let me know. The diagram used for solving the tic tac toe is NOT compatable with the HTML used in postings. But I will attempt to use it here using hypens or '---' to keep the spacing. There are NO negative numbers here. ------------- 1.5 5% -------- -------- X 1000 ml = 333.33ml of 5% NaSO4 solution ------------- 4.5 ------ 2% -------------- 3 0.5%-------- ------- X 1000 ml = 666.67 ml of 0.5% NaSO4 solution ------------ 4.5 Check: 333.33 of 5% NaSO4 solution PLUS 666.67 ml of 0.5% NaSO4 solution make a total of 1000 ml of 2% NaSO4 solution I HIGHLY recommend going to the tutorials, EVEN if this comes out clear here, where I have written a discussion on the set up and all. Hope this helps, Please let me know.... Guest guest
No s Sarpong, you can not subtract apples from oranges! You cannot subract voolume (Liters or L) from percentage (%) Please go to the Tutorials and SEE the layout how to do these type of problems. Guest guest
Dear Chelle, You will need to use an Alligation Method to solve for this problem. Go to the Math Tutorials on this study site in the Files section. First go to the HOME page of this site at: LOOK to your left and find the YELLOW Menu Box Click on Files > Click on 5- Tutorial-1 & Study Information > Click on S 8- Math Tutorials Only > Click on and OPEN 4. Alligations > Alligation II Follow the instructions with the problem that you posted. Let me know your answer and I will confirm it or let you know if it is incorrect. If incorrect I will try to explain it to you further. Guest guest
Dear! I don't want to use alligation to explain it for you. I use mathematics to explain it for you. I think it is easy to understand than alligation. x: ml of 30% solution used. 30% solution mean 30 ml of the compound in 100 ml of solution y: ml of 2% solution used. 2% solution mean 2 ml of the compound in 100 ml of solution We have two equation: x* 30/100 + y* 2/100 = 60 ml * 12/100 and x + y = 60 ml Solve x and y. We get results. Because of this method require to solve the two equation, so alligation is the short cut to have the same results. Guest guest
Dear phuc110781, Great work! We have a saying in the US 'What ever floats your boat! " It means do what you like best! Do what you want! I am sure you will have taught many a different way. Some people are formula people some are pattern or spacial people, some are logic etc. Some are combination etc. We all learn in different ways. Thank you for sharing. For years as a chemist I would have done it the way you have shown. But once learning how Rx does it so fast I adapted. But an alligation is the use of the pattern method (as in my tutorial), otherwise it is a dilution by algebra. Some people are scared just to hear the word algebra! Others love it! Obviously you love it! So phuc110781, may I place your exact work in a tutorial with your name on it? Guest guest
Of course! I only want everyone to understand the root of the problem. It is easy for everyone to do calculation if they forget the formular. Have a great day. From: Jeanetta Mastron <rxjm2002@...> Subject: Re: Help Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
You did a fine job of explaining it. So the " Of course' is for using this in a the tutorial? (just want to be sure! : and get your permission) Have a great night! Jeanetta From: Jeanetta Mastron <rxjm2002@...> Subject: Re: Help Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Is the answer 666.67 ml of the .5% solution correct. > > How many milliliters of a 0.5% sodium sulfate solution should be mixed with 5% sodium sulfate solution to make 1L of a 2% solution?? >
Guest guest
Yes! After you solve with the tic tac toe you will have 1.5/4/5 x 1000ml = X ml = 333.33 ml of 5% sodium sulfate solution and 3/4.5 x 1000ml = x ml = 666.67 ml of 0.5% sodium sulfate solution Makes 1L of a 2% solution Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS Founder/Owner > > > > How many milliliters of a 0.5% sodium sulfate solution should be mixed with 5% sodium sulfate solution to make 1L of a 2% solution?? > > >
