How many milligrams (mg) of NTG (nitroglycerin) would be contained in

30 tablets each

containing 1/150 grain?

Strategy: Find out how many mg are in one tablet then multiply that

number by 30 tablets.

Step 1: First find out how many mg are in 1/150 grain,

Step 2: Then multiply by the amount of mg/tab by 30.

Step 1: First we need to convert 1/1/50 grain to mg.

Recall: 1 grain = 60, 65 or 64.8 mg

I/we will use 60 mg for this problem

Set up ratio/proportion:

1 gr/60 mg = 1/150 gr /X mg

Note: you can also set it up using the decimal fraction of 1/150 =

0.0067, which would like this:

1/gr/60 mg = 0.0067 gr/X mg

Cross Multiply:

60 mg x 1/150 gr

--------------------- = X mg = 0.4 mg

1 gr

OR using the decimal fraction of 1//150 gr

60 mg x 0.0067 gr

----------------------- = X mg = 0.402 mg or 0.4 mg

1 gr

Step 2. Find out how many mg are in 30 tablets by Multiplying the

amount of mg/tab by 30 tablets

NOW we know that 1 tablet = 0.4 mg

What about 30 tablets?

Solve by Logical or dimensional analysis:

0.4 mg/tab x 30 tab = 12 mg

OR

Solve by Ratio/proportion:

0.4 mg/1tab = X mg/30 tab

Cross Multiply:

0.4 mg x 30 tab/1tab = 12 mg

Answer : 30 tablets of NTG 1/150 grain = 12 mg

Hope this helps you out Galina!
