Guest guest
Hey Carmelita, Sorry, I know Im not Jeanetta, but wanted to let you know how I recently went to apply for a position as a Certified Pharmacy Tech at our local hospital here. Basically all you need to have with you is your resume, and just fill out an application. They will then get in touch with you. Even if all they have is a PRN position, take it.. This is how I applied and got my job. For me its been a great decision on my part. Wish you loads of luck. LadyCPhT
Guest guest
Hi Bing- A formal education is definitely the way to go---just make sure the program provides enough didactic hours and provides at least 2 internships. See Jeanetta's discussions 4231 4232 for starters. I'm not familiar with the various programs offered in CA so I can't tell you which one is 'the best'. Here's a link to the ASHP accredited tech programs. http://tinyurl.com/ysrj5 Good luck! Guest guest
Hi Jeanetta I am puzzled as to how slowly recognition is coming to pharmacy technicians Take the scenareo of an IV tech working in the hood. Today I made 5 insulin drips 100 units per 100ml NS or 1ml per bag This is not a difficult calculation, but the point is if you do not know what you are doing and shot one bag wrong you could send someone into insulin shock or not give enough to help them Yet we are still treated like grocery clerks after all these years. Many other items the pharmacists risk there tickets over us doing iv's correctly, or at least drawing back the syringe to what we actually put in the bag in case we make a mistake I have tossed out many Ivs where I was not sure I got them right Have gotten no criticism from the hospital, but takes dedicated, professional, educated people to make good judgements when the pharmacist can not check your work like seeing if you loaded the right tab/capsule, Not like a grocery clerk (I used to be one) putting carrots where there shoud be peas Despite you and Joe's efforts, respect is slow to come. If I could find something else I would get out of pharmacy, my hospital is so short staffed and squeezing blood out of a turnup in the pharmacy I would not recomend this field as a career to anyone who had talents in other areas. Guest guest
I hope it wasn't you! So Jeanne, When was this? Year? Thanks for your input! Okay now that i got you intrigued. We had a very nice elderly woman very nice. You can tell that she was not feeling very well. I had assisted her and told her that i would get it done for her quickly so that she can go home. She then asked if there was a restroom and i pointed it out for her. She had been gone for awhile so by the time she did come out her medication was ready. I gave it to her and told her to feel better, as she walked away, i noticed her pants (they had some wet spots). All the girls saw that. One of the gals ran to the bathroom only to come out yelling. She was choking and gagging and crying. We asked what's wrong...She said that the lady had gone to the bathroom alright but she missed the toilet, there was diarreha all over the floor and on the walls. So of course one of us technicians had to go and clean the bathroom. jeanne
