Guest guest
Hi group, Glad to hear my post about Vit. C sparked a small conversation. Gerald (I believe?) posted that he has a hard time finding " bowel toleranc " ...that is not uncommon as every body is different. And if you take any other meds that cause chronic constipation it can be hard to find a high enough dose of vit. C that will get you to that tolerance place. I would still caution that each person do research into the theory of misbalancing vitamins and minerals by taking megadoses of one without enough of its natural counterpart. Go back to my original statement about calcium and magnesium if you wish. There is a very controversial fellow in the Thyroid community. He operates his own website www.ithyroid.com and he expounds on the theory of vitamin imbalance. He uses an excellent example utilizing copper as the reference nutrient to explain how deficiencies can occur. He also discusses more about the need to maintain balance in our supplementations. For someone like me who was experiencing hyperthyroid swings (and is now kept chemically hyperthyroid), high doses of Vit. C are not as good for me as they might be for one of you... Just some other info for you to dig through if interested. As for the recent chatter about fillers: I had my LDN compounded at Keys Pharmacy in Kent, WA and they use avicell (sp?) as the filler. It is a natural plant cellulose, non-allergenic. Has anyone had any experience (good or bad) with this filler? I am not lactose intolerant and having it compounded with calcium carbonate would not be a bad idea for me as I am missing one of my parathyroid glands and need an extra boost of calcium daily. However, I know from my experience in Clinical Nutrition, that calcium carbonate is one of the poorest forms of calcium, is hardest on the stomach as far as digestion is concerned, and has the poorest absorption rates. Calcium Lactate and Chelated Calciums have far better absorption rates. Does anyone have any other opinions on this topic? Any bad reactions to report about the cellulose filler? Thanks for all the input. Glad you are all here and willing to share. Best, Lara
Guest guest
Lara, Thanks for all you insight on supplements! > Does anyone have any other opinions on this topic? All I can add is what I was told by Dr Skip, of www.SkipsPharmacy.com: Calcium Carbonate can pack down in the capsules, causing a slow release effect, when fast release is the desired form for LDN. He also uses Avacil.
