Hello,

I really don't have a lot of time to study for the PTCB- two weeks at most. I

found my old high school CD, Passassured's Pharmacy technician training Program,

and am going to mainly rely on this as my main study source with maybe Mosby's

book if I have time. I was just wondering if anyone has used passassured and

passed the first time they took the PTCE?

Dear Scribbled Pinapple,

If you have an old CD from high school I would use it but you should know that

two weeks is generally not enough time for those who have not practiced as a

tech. And those who have will need to brush up on the areas that they are

weakest in.

Here is a quote from FAQ's Passassured's site;

http://www.passassured.com/faq-4.htm

" Q:How long does it normally take to complete the Pharmacy Technician Training

Program?

A: Our interactive CD-ROM is a self paced system. Typically, multimedia

presentations offer the shortest 'learn' time for the required study material.

In addition, with the ability to repeat study presentation on command, repeat

any of our five testing levels, and our 27,000 word help file for reference, the

time required to complete our program will remain brief. We typically recommend

six to twelve weeks preparation time before taking the PTCB Exam. However,

actual results will be dependent upon the user. "

Let me repeat that: Passassured recommends: 6 - 12 weeks of study to prepare for

the exam from scratch!

I say that you should have 3 - 6 months of preparation, and that is from my

experience of those who study on their own.

I say you need about 4-6 hours per day, 4 - 5 days a wee, which is 16 to 30

hours per week of study minimum. And for about 12-24 weeks.

This is about 200 hours to 700 hours, depending upon if you have experience or

not. Less experience the greater number of hours you will need.

Hope this helps.

If you studied in high school, depending upon when that was you probably do not

need much introduction and review, but if you have never really teched then you

probably need some where around 500-700 hours to review and brush up. If you do

have some externship or experience that is recent (last 5 yrs) then you can

probably get away with only 40-200 hours of study. This of course is only to

pass the exam. I am not saying that you make the best tech, just because you

pass the exam. Being able to recognize and prevent medication errors and

assisting the pharmacist are the main goals of being a pharmacy technician. That

takes lots of time, study and practice.

In my humble opinion $250 is a lot of money to spend on the program, but you

happen to have an old CD rom to watch/listen to.

If it still works with any pass codes etc, then I would say use it. But a good

study guide is very important as well. Did your CD rom come with a book? If so

use it. Double check everything here on this FREE site anduse google for updates

as I do not know how old your CD is.

Hope this helps,

PS of course best bet is to use an additional study guide book as I always

recommend two resources in addition to this site.

Hope this helps,
