It is really important to view to requirement for CE as a way to

further your education and NOT, as a chore you must accomplish, any way

you can!

There are so many free CE's out there, but please pick and choose the

one appropriate to your practice or field of interest. Refrain from

doing topics you do not understand.

Remember, as of this year ACPE has changed their numbering system,

placing a " T " at the end of any program that may be completd by

technicians (technicans will now have a list of learning objectives

that differ from the pharmacist one)

You may need to copy and paste some of these addresses.

from PTCB's own website:

https://www.ptcb.org/AM/Template.cfm?

Section=Online_CE & Template=/CM/HTMLDisplay.cfm & ContentID=2682

Register free at RXschool...they have a specific section for techs:

icluding the following topic:

The Practical and Regulatory Perspective of Bioequivalence

20Training

Hope this is helpful,

Dear Vicki,

It was one of my pet peeves back in 1999 when I first came online that

there were NO FREE CE for techs.

I founded a site called Jeanetta's Free CE. I had hopes of creating

FREE CE with help from people from this site and other tech sites. NO

one followed through! NOT one! I had about 3 bits. So I never was able

to make a solid go of it. Secondly I could not afford for a

certificate program. Testing online is no problem.

PTCB has never required ACPE CE. Some states do.

How long this will last remains to be seen.

But I have made it my personal goal to provide members with access to

FREE CE. I believe that each tech can decide which CE is suitable for

them. They know if the topic is too advanced or too easy. However ACPE

designation prevents someone like me or Anne or others with BS in

Biology or Chemistry who may enjoy and understand some and most of the

RPh CE (non-counseling etc). I am in favor of Techs learning

whatever they can. Much of my base knowlege in addition to attending a

2 yr community college pharmacy technician program is from attending

LIVE RPh CE. Fortunately CSHP has always invited techs to RPh Ce.

But with new ASHP and ACPE rulings of the " T " (which saddens me) I am

sure most CE for RPh will not be allowed for techs as an option. This

will make Joe very happy as he believes that the CE for techs must be

tech only. I don't believe in dumbing down anything for the techs. I

believe a good solid foundation in a formal setting is key to

understanding RPh CE on disease states, pharmcotherapeutics,

pharmacoeconomics, pharmcodynamics.

Any way that being said, I have had the following document in my files

for YEARS. It was last updated in March of this year. I planned to

update it again in March. So a few links may not work:

Files>

Folder: CE's>

Documet: Free and Low Cost CE 2007 Updated.doc

Description: A LIST of Updated of FREE and Low Cost Online CE

In addition, I have posted many fREE CE's and links from time to time.

CE City is one that I have found has much for Rx Techs. I love

Medscape and freece.com CE too!

The CE from freece.com and powerpak are favorites of those who use

this site.

Respectfully,

Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS

My local chapter of ASHP has done a very nice job of getting seperate

technician " approval. " Case in point...just attended on Wednesday

evening a talk entitled: " Improving Compliance and Overcoming

Barriers to Adherence with Psycotropic Medications "

Absolutely no reason why techncians wouldn't benefit from such

knowledge.

Again, as you know, I feel like we are our own best advocates.

Continuing education should be just that...continuing your

education. I, too feel that I am perfectly capable of understanding

and learning from many CE aimed at Pharmacists. Unfortunately, those

techs out there that, in my opinion, ABUSED this requirement by more

or less just finding the appropriate paragraph in the CE to answer

the question or attended lectures at meetings that they had no way of

comprehending...have spoiled it for those of us capable of more!

So, as much as I too dislike this seperate numbering system...I feel

it almost became a necessary evil.

And for those of us seeking more...I'm sure, like me you meet your

20hr requirement during the first couple of months of your new

certification period. I often read and attend CE's just for the pure

gain of knowledge.

I know...I'm a big Pharmacy Technican NERD.

Oh, did I mention...certified pharmacy technician.

PS...what a difference 24hrs (and some stern words from " mom " ) can

make!
