Guest guest
Hi Jeanetta and Group! This was posted on my own group and I thought it would be of the greatest value for your forum as well! Wishing this forum the best as always. Joe Medina, CPhT, BS Pharmacy http://www.tlectures.com ------------------ Using DrugTopics[1] and Joe's[2] data about indication and classification, I created a flashcard deck for Anki. Anyone can use it. Just download and install the free Anki flashcard software: .... http://ankisrs.net/ Start Anki and click " File -> Download -> Shared Deck " from the menu. It will take a few moments to populate the list of available decks. When it displays the list, just type " PTCB " in the search field. You should see: .... Top-100 Prescribed Generic Drugs 2009 (Pharmacy Tech. Exam) After you download it, just click " Review. " Anki has a lot of confusing options. You can ignore them. Just " review. " Anki is tremendously better than online flashcard systems. It uses a clinically proven technique called " space repetition " (or the Leitner system) to display cards in quantity and frequency for optimal memorization. Just let Anki do the work. It will display 20 cards the first day. It will display more cards the next day (along with reviewing previous cards based upon how you rated those cards). By default, Anki should display cards in the order they were added. That will be by rank (popularity of drug). The cards have also been " tagged " with the values " top-10, -25 and -50 " . Using the " suspend " feature, you can easily limit review to just those more popular drugs. It also has a " Cram " mode (Tools -> Cram) which goes sequentially through the deck (like ordinary flashcard systems, without spaced repetition). It's what you'd use a day or two prior to the exam to review all the material. Normally, you'll just " review " whatever Anki has for you each day. If your really want to understand how to use Anki (create your own decks, etc.), there are 7 introductory videos here: .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0dI2VyLDWw & feature=PlayList & p=4221D2E6B440D79B & p\ \laynext_from=PL & index=0 & playnext=1 Other shared decks may interest you. Try searching for " PTCE " or " Pharmacy. " This will show you decks named " Top 200 Drugs " and " 475 Common Drugs. " I chose to do this deck because 1) Joe said 100 should be sufficient for the exam (no reason to make it harder). And, 2) it's not clear what the source is of these other decks. I used DrugTopics. Guest guest
Hi Joe! Thank you for sharing about Anki. I think www.Studystack.com is much easier to use when just wanting straight memorization e-flash cards. But I have to say that I watched the intro videos for Anki and was very impressed with the " space repetition " . Funny as it is a technique that I use, without a name for it, when I have my students use memory aids to memorize Trade/generics. But I was confused about the many options. I guess I am just not a tekki. By the way the list that was used from Drug Topics is 2007 but the newest list of Top 200 drugs is 2009 and 2010 just came out I believe.
