The 1st of December, World AIDS Day, is the day when individuals and

organisations from around the world come together to bring attention

to the global AIDS epidemic. 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of World

AIDS Day. Whilst we have come a long ways since 1988, there is still

much more to be done.

United States

New York - Joanne Jefferson set up a table in her offices' lobby (at

the Social Security Administration) and gave out information,

ribbons, bracelets and candy.

Tyler, Texas

In Tyler, a commemorative service, candlelight walk, and remembrance

took place on World AIDS Day. In addition Tyler AIDS Services offered

free, confidential and anonymous HIV screening.

Washington DC

The IFC (International Finance Corporation) Against AIDS, and the

World Bank's South Asia Finance and Private Sector (SASPF) unit and

the South Asia Region (SAR) AIDS team organised a World AIDS Day

seminar focusing on the leadership role of private sector partners in

implementing innovative approaches to effectively combat HIV and AIDS

Introducing the seminar, World Bank Managing Director,

Daboub said the seminar was part of an ongoing dialogue between the

World Bank and IFC with private sector players in South Asia and

Africa, in particular, on how to scale up the private sector

engagement and explore its leadership role in stopping AIDS. Speakers

at the event were Cover, Senior Vice President Ogilvy PR

Worldwide; Tamsin , President, Product (RED) and Sai Paranjpye

Indian Filmmaker.
