What is the breaking news? Recently, we were notified of changes in Medicare legislation that could benefit some of our participants. Medicare is taking applications from eligible MS patients for a demonstration project. This project is a lottery. If you are selected in the lottery, Medicare will help pay for any one of four injectible MS medications. Medicare will cover 75% or more of the cost depending on income. If selected, the medication coverage will last from fall 2004 through December 2005. The Medicare legislation will take affect in January of 2006. Who is eligible? · Eligible MS patients cannot have any other comprehensive insurance that covers most of the cost of the MS injected therapies (such as Medicaid, an employer or union group health plan, TRICARE or a drug company assistance plan). · Eligible patients must have Medicare Part B and have or be able to obtain Medicare Part A coverage. · Medicare must be the applicant's primary insurance payer. · The applicant must have a signed document from their doctor explaining the need for an of the MS injectible therapies. When should I apply? Applications will be selected in two lotteries. One will take place on August 16, 2004 and the next on September 30, 2004. Applications are currently being accepted and will continue to be accepted through September 30, 2004. Applications received prior to the first lottery (August 16th) because will be eligible for both lottery drawings. But, only about 10% of the total amount of recipients will be chosen during the first lottery. How do I apply?
