Dear All,

Attached below is the post that amigo_boy2000 wanted to post in FULL.

I rarely edit a post. About 1-2 times a year if I find it necessary. Usual edits

consist of removing personal data such as phone number, address etc. to protect

the identity of the poster, I have also edited a post by removing the way to

calculate DEA numbers as I did not want to be party to this information being on

the internet and falling into the wrong hands. I have edited a spelling error of

a sound-alike or look- a-like drug name to prevent others from making the same

error and causing a medication error to a patient, I have edited to prevent

liability due to slander; I have deleted and prevented spam by using the

moderation abilities that grants owners. I have never had anyone upset

with me for editing his/her post and again I say this is a rare action on my

part. I have had two people upset for removing/preventing a couple of posts

before I added the " moderation tool " used to prevent daily spam about 5 yrs ago.

As an owner I have a responsibility to community to uphold the standard of

character and integrity that pharmacy technicians should display. Ethics 101 you

might say.

I wrote to amigo_boy2000 immediately after I had posted the edited version to

inform him that I removed approximately four sentences and why. He was very

upset and I do not blame him as he felt I should have alerted him first and

given him a choice. He was/is correct. So I pledge to inform any member of any

edit that I think should be done and why to give the posting member a chance to

change the post his or her self or to decide not post at all. However I will

continue NOT to post spam, links to porn, or links that will/may cause a virus

on your computer and the like.

I edited his post to prevent what I perceived to be a possible legal issue with

PTCB should they see it as a copyright issue. I wanted to protect amigo_boy2000

and myself.

We had several exchanges of private email, in which amigo_boy2000 said that it

is not against copy right fair use laws to use the educational material for

private one time use.

That struck a cord with me; unfortunately not immediately. And that is

absolutely correct. Therefore I am posting his post in FULL.

By my removal of the information that he provided in why and how to use screen

capture, it allowed viewers to misinterpret his originally qualified statement

of spending money to take the exam that does not allow the test taker much time

to calculate, answer and also read/study the explanations. Using screen capture

allows a person time to study later what they missed and to learn from it.

My apologies to amigo_boy2000 and the distress that I caused him by removing

this information that I felt would become a copyright issue with PTCB and

possibly cause a problem for either or both of us. In his own words my removal

of this information amounted to him 'advocating a $30 expenditure for the

practice test without the caveat of how to make it a worthwhile expenditure.' I

did not wish nor intend to remove his sentiments, but only protect him from

advocating the use of screen capture on PTCB property.

This all being said, I highly recommend that one read the Copyright Fair Use

Laws that I have had posted in the Files section of this site since January 14,

2007.

In addition, I highly recommend that you read all of the agreement that you

enter into with PTCB when you spend your dollars to take the exam and make your

own decision for your actions while using the PTCB practice exams.

Below you will fid the FULL original text from the post entitled " Best math book

for me " , originally written Saturday April 30, 2011 10:11 PM by " az2008za "

<amigo_boy2000@...> to be posted on . Please note

the paragraphs 6 and 7 where the last two sentences of paragraph 6 and the two

sentences of paragraph 7 have been returned to the post.

" I liked the green Perspective Press (AShP) " Pharmacy Technician " (3rd ed.).[1]

And, the white workbook.[2]

I bought mine a year ago on eBay. A 4th ed is available now. The 3rd ed. was

fine, so you might save money buying a used copy on eBay or Amazon's

" marketplace. " (Sometimes you can get spectacular deals on recently deprecated

editions.).

The book contains a lot of material that's unnecessary for the exam (I'm not

saying anything I learned from the exam. It's just an obviously broad-topic book

compared to the other prep books. I said this a few weeks ago on another

forum.). You'll have broader knowledge if you study this book. But, if your goal

is just to pass, you'll waste your time.

However, regarding math. I liked this book best. (Delmar), Reifman and

Medina just didn't resonate for me. They were a little more algebraic and terse,

like a formula. The PP book explained ratio-proportion more procedurally. The

workbook has a 50-question math exam. (It also has a 100-question practice exam,

which helps make it worth the price.).

Speaking of practice math exams, PTCB sells a 25-question math exam for $29. A

bit pricey, but it's pretty good. It doesn't score your results. It gives you

the answer after you choose an answer, and shows how they arrived at the answer

(unfortunately, a little tersely.).

This PTCB practice exam is a bit deficient because it gives you 30-60 minutes to

complete it (I forget). Which means, if you spend too much time studying the

answers you'll run out of time. Therefore, you should just chose any answer to

get to the answer screen, then screen-capture it for later review. Do that for

all 25 questions and study them at your leisure.

I use the free " screen grab " utility because it can be configured to generate

file names, so screen captures are automatic without any interaction. You just

press alt-f12 and it saves the screen.

For basic math review, I liked " Math for Nurses " and " Dosage Calculations Made

Incredibly Easy. " [5] They review fractions, percentages, etc. They also get into

ratio/proportion. They have more IV flow rate than pharmacy-tech books. More

than you need to learn. But, they come at it from a different angle.
